These extensions just increase the risk of having to buy him out like our last coaches
This, of course, is assuming Frost will fail and get fired..We’re less than 2 seasons into his tenure, geez..
I understand the frustration and the “need” of the fan base for the Huskers to win “NOW”.. Like I said earlier, give the guy and his staff a chance..
Let me share a story about a coach.. The first 5 seasons he was head coach, his record was 18 wins, 46 losses and 4 ties. Yep, this coach was 18-46-4 his first 5 years. The fan base that wasn’t apathetic, wanted him fired, “NOW”. Ownership thought otherwise, and signed him to a 10 year contract extension. That head coach was Tom Landry of the Dallas Cowboys..who then proceeded to lead his team to an NFL record 20 consecutive winning seasons, 5 Super Bowl appearances and 2 Super Bowl Championships.. You should know this story..and if you don’t, read up about it..
I’m not Nostradamus. Maybe Frost will fall on his face. Maybe he won’t. The point is, NONE of us, less than TWO seasons into his tenure can know that for sure. If a knucklehead like Pelini got 7 years, Scott Frost at least deserves the same consideration before we gloom and doom his tenure as failure...
Ciao..LiO...Peace
I hope he builds things back up and in a year or two we can see improvement. We heard your arguments in favor of every coach extension and these just lead to fat buy out down the road. I am legit tired of these as they are bleeding their program.
Well, we can agree that I hope Frost can build the program back up. I believe he’s the right guy for the job and believe he can. I personally, never argued in favor of the last 3 NU coaches before him, but I think I see what you’re getting at..
In the end, he’s less than 2 seasons into his tenure as head coach.. the guy needs time to build, tweak and integrate the right players into his system..Fans wanting instant gratification and to win “now” are simply frustrated (which I get) and short sighted (which I don’t)...

I'm no Husker expert so I have no stock in the contract extension.
All I know is the team looked pretty good at times during this game. They played better than I expected, and I agree it was a pretty feel good loss.
I am old enough to remember the glory days of the 1980s and 1990s. I suspect most of you are not.
There was no such thing as a “feel good loss” during those decades.
If Frost doesn’t turn the program around to a winning season of at least 7 wins and a bowl game in 2020, and if he is nonetheless retained as a head coach despite doing so, then that will all but prove that the big wigs at the university have given up on UNL returning to anything close to the Glory Days of the last century. 6-5 will then = a “good” year. The football equivalent of reaching the NIT.
That’s perfectly okay with me, mind you. I quit closely following UNL football at least a dozen years ago. There are better things to do with my weekend than sit in front of the boob tube. Especially if the weather is nice.

And one additional thing to note- Frost is not even through with his 2nd season at NU.. I think it’s a bit over reactive to assume he’ll fail as his 3 predecessors did. The coach needs to have a chance, for goodness sakes. As I stated in a previous post, even Bo Pelini (who I never supported) got 7 years. Again, give this staff the time...
People seem to forget the past.
That “knucklehead” Bo Pelini (and I agree he personally was a knucklehead) took over from the shambles of the Callahan error/era and went 9-4 and 10-4 in his first two years. No excuses about needing to recruit better players or install his “system”. In his 7 full seasons he NEVER lost more than 4 games in a season. His .713 winning percentage was third in UNL team history, behind only Devaney and Osborne.
The powers that be at the university then fired Pelini after his dismal cumulative record of 67-27, and paid him $7.9 million to go coach somewhere else.
Stack those stats up against Frost in his first two seasons.
The only reason Frost is being put on a longer leash is that the Golden Boy has Nebraska roots. If it were anybody else he would not be allowed to finish out this season.

I think most would agree that Callahan was a good recruiter. Bo was most successful with Bill's players. Bo hated recruiting.

This is 100% correct. Pelini had his best teams his first 3 seasons with players Callahan recruited. Callahan could recruit. His coaching as a HC, not so much. Pelini could not recruit and his teams started to fall off by the 2012 season.. Lack of recruiting, plus his miserable demeanor, got him the deserved boot..
Frost admitted in his press conference yesterday, that the rebuild of the football program is even more difficult than he and his staff anticipated. I’ve said it before, by his 4th season (2021) I fully expect the Huskers to be a real contender in the Big 10 West...
Riley was used to recruiting players that couldn't make the rosters of Oregon, Washinhton of even Washington St. He could never shiff talent and that's what he brought to Nebraska. He inherited a culture that would take plays off and days off from lifting. They just liked to wear the name of Nebraska not earn it. Admit it, by the time we got to Riley, Nebraska was pathetic and a laughing stock.
Nebraska is a 6 1/2 point favorite at Maryland this Saturday. Can Frost win his 2nd Nebraska road game ever this week? No way! I don't see it. Frost will have to wait until year number 3 to get his 2nd road game victory. Maryland wins this game straight up.
If I remember my Husker History, Frankie was fired more for his, uh, extracurricular dalliances than for any (non)performance on the field, and Bo was fired mainly for being a hothead on the field, and I might assume off the field too.
I also seem to remember, now decades ago, that Tom was strongly criticized for "not being able to win the big one" for a number of years.

I agree with these. Solich was shackled up with an undergrad. Pelini was caught on live video cursing like a wild man during a game. Riley and Callahan got fired for being bad at their jobs.
TO was routinely crapped on for losing to Barry Sweatshirt.

I haven't been hopeful of much this season and never had the expectations that many had. that being said, the Husker will win this Saturday by 10 or more.

I agree, Nebraska can beat Maryland. But it really depends on which Nebraska team shows up. I thought they looked extra focused and at times sharp on offense against Wisconsin, they just didn’t have the ability to stop Wisconsin’s lethal running game. Against South Alabama and Minnesota and part of Illinois they looked flat and timid. Depends which team shows up this Saturday. They’ve had problems with consistency for years, it’s nothing new.
I’ve looked at their schedule next year and 2021 it doesn’t get any easier. This year they actually had a favorable schedule to get 6 or 7 wins probably more so than next years schedule or 2021.
The Huskers have looked good and solid during only a handful of stretches this season. If the team that played the first half at Colorado, second half at Illinois, first quarter vs Indiana, and first 18 minutes against Wisconsin, then I like the Huskers to finally have a good game. Maryland turned out to be a really bad team down the stretch. They've lost 5 straight, but I'm sure they're licking their chops for a home win against a bad Nebraska team.
Outside of Maryland's first two games, they have been poor, with only one conference win over Rutgers. They've been blown out, or beaten by bad teams all season. Nebraska, on the other hand, has at least hung around in all their games outside of Minnesota and Ohio State.

It seems to me that the issue this year, at least at this time in this year, is that they are consistently inconsistent, at all levels.
They had a good start last weekend, but could not keep consistently playing at that level.
I think Frost lost this team. Frost sold the fans and the media hook line and sinker but many of the players are not buying it. Many of the players just want this miserable season to get over so they can move on with their lives. I bet there are "Camps." You got the smaller camp where the players are mostly young players who are on the starting team that are towing Frost's line and then you got the older players who are just sick and tired of losing all the time.....sick and tired of all the schemes and plans and plays that never seem to work.
The game this week against Maryland is winnable in my book. But will the players want it bad enough or will they just go through the motions and make a quick exit out of town ? Against Minnesota it looked like they didn’t want to be there, and just wanted to get the game over with. If they lose against Maryland especially if they get blown out I think you have to look at coaching as a major problem at Nebraska.
There is no way Nebraska should be favored by 5 points this week. That is ludicrous. Scott Frost will be lucky if he wins his 2nd road game next year much less next week. It might take Frost until year 4 or 5 to win his 2nd road game. The point spread on this game should be even. I will accept this gift of 5 points from the casino and bet on Maryland getting 5 points.
Agreed. The Terps may not be that great, but the holers up by 5? That means a TD or two FGs to beat the spread. This smells of fan manipulation by the bookies. Set an improbable margin that is just too big to be beaten, but not too big to light up the |expletive| detectors.
This season started out with a lot of hope and promise for Maryland. But it went downhill and their season is pretty much lost. They have no chance of making a bowl game. They've pretty much given up on the season. I bet Nebraska will win by at least 10. Maybe I'm being overly optimistic but considering the way Maryland's season has gone, that wouldn't surprise me.
I was thinking all week that this Maryland game was going to be a close game that would be settled by a field goal. I have changed my mind after hearing the Big Red Insider Sean Callahan predict that he is surprised Nebraska is not favored by more points. If there is one thing I have to give guys like Sean Callahan credit for is they are consistently wrong. If they were giving awards out for being wrong then guys like Sean Callahan would have a wall full of them. If they were giving awards out for blind loyalty and being a great cheer leader then guys like Sean Callahan would have a ton of them. Nebraska's Defense has only held a team under 31 points once in the past 6 games and that was against a Northwestern team playing with a back up QB. There is no way Maryland scores just 2 or 3 touchdowns.
This ones over boys. Nebraska has finally found a team that is even more inept then themselves. Maryland spots Nebraska a 17 point head start in the first quarter.

How about giving the Husker a bit of credit for the poi;at and the 34-0 half time lead.

34-0 NU at the half..

Okay... A win is a win... I'm not watching, but I'm keeping up on the score. How do they look? From the gamecast, this looks more like a product of Maryland being super super bad than it is Nebraska being good.

A 10 yr old girl with a lollipop could be right more often then Callahan. Callahan has consistently made wrong predictions for years. I will be the first to admit this all is rather an unfair assertion. Callahan is not in the prediction business. Callahan is in the Telling People What They Want To Hear Business. Sean knows there is no money in telling the people the truth. Sean knows the money is in telling the people what they want to believe even if it there is not an ounce of truth to it. I bet if Sean Callahan was making truthful predictions he would be a formidable opponent but since he may have a few kids to put through college I don't see that happening.

Maryland is hands down the worst team we have seen all year. Maryland is playing with 3 quarterbacks They never gave themselves a chance. Just a complete meltdown for Maryland from the first hike of the ball. It is good to know that Nebraska is not the worst team in the league.

Oh don't kid yourself. This feel good win will be short lived I am afraid. It would be great if Nebraska is well now and they will take care of business Friday against Iowa and we will be off to play in a Bowl. I don't see it. I watched the Iowa vs Minnesota game last week and it was disconcerting to see how strong Iowa looked. I could not believe how good Iowa looked. Iowa had to be good to knock off the undefeated Minnesota team. Might as well enjoy the party for now because its going to be done and over by this time Friday. If Frost knocks off Iowa and gets us to a bowl it would be his greatest moment indeed.

Lol..
Well, I’m already on record here stating NU would finish the season losing to Wisconsin, beating Maryland, then losing to Iowa.. I’m sticking with that prediction. But like I said a month ago, Iowa is not unbeatable and is offensively challenged. The game will be close.. but like last year, I think NU will lose a heartbreaker. Hope I’m wrong..
The good out of this game was NU got to play our future players without losing their red shirt and the looked good! I think all the road team got into the game.
The biggest thing was that Nebraska beat a bad team like they should be beating a bad team. I couldn't catch much of the game, but it seems like outside of Red Zone issues here and there, it was an all around well played game.
Not surprised Nebraska beat Maryland. The blowout however was a surprise. Maybe this team is starting to find itself. But beating Iowa will be very difficult, they will have to overachieve to have any chance Friday.
