Prior to 2017 me would agree that a + .500 regular season should absolutely be the benchmark... But the Husker football program is in such bad shape that a mere bowl appearance in 2022 would be enough for Frost to retain his job... And honestly, It would be enough to please me at this point. Hopefully it would happen sooner than that. If it doesn't happen by then, then ya know... If I was calling the shots that would be my bare minimum. If were not enjoying a 6-6 2022 season and win or lose the bowl game, then It is time for someone else to try, if the coaching market looks good.

Well, it would not be enough to please me..

We’ll agree to disagree on that point. For me, it’s far more important by the end of 2021 to have a winning regular season. 6-6 just doesn’t cut it. And if that’s all Frost can provide in his 4th year, regardless if the Huskers perform well in a “Weedwacker Bowl”.. just does not fill the bill, nor should it.. The benchmark is a winning regular season in 2021.. 7 games at a minimum. Then, honestly, I’d be satisfied Frost is starting to turn the corner with this program..

That’s where I’m at as a fan at this point. We’ve already thrown this covid 2020 season into the dumpster and lit a match.. The only thing left for me, is to see if the Huskers can carve out at least 2 wins..which would match my 2-3 win season prediction before this “Covid season” started...

Ohhh, so you want to see a winning season next year... I want the Huskers to be good ASAP, but I also want to be honest with myself. There's no way this current team is a year removed from a 7-5 or better season, regardless of who the coach is. I want to keep my expectations attainable. Cause otherwise he'll get fired and we'll just move onto the next guy that can't get the job done.

I don't care how this season turns out anymore, really. I'll even give the man a sub-par 2021 and he'll hang on by the skin of his teeth. Then in 2022 something must be proven (IMO .500 or above). I don't want another coach after just "three years" again. Especially since when he was hired there was a "Frosty Frosty, he's our man, if he can't do it, nobody can!" atmosphere around everything Nebraska.

Yes- I want to see a 7-5 season next year..and I do think that’s attainable with the talent level this program currently lives in. You and I will seemingly not agree on this.. 7-5 is absolutely attainable..and if it’s not attained after a full, 12 game 2021 Husker regular season, then Frost and Moos are in BIG trouble and should be. And remember, I’ve been one of Frost’s biggest defenders on this forum..

6-6 in 2021? Enough is enough. This program MUST build a winning culture and you don’t build that culture on 6-6. Sorry. Remember, even Mike Reilly, who 99% of the Husker fan base thinks sucked as a HC, had one winning season before he was canned after year 3.. So yes, if Frost can’t, at least, deliver a minimal 7-5 winning regular season after his 4th year, then I think it’s fair to consider moving on from him as head coach and from Moos as the AD..

I appreciate your perspective on this point, but completely disagree with it..and I say this right now still hanging on to a glimmer of hope Frost will succeed as head coach of the Cornhuskers beyond the 2021 season...

Coin tosses at best against IL, MSU, NW, Purdue, MI, IA, and MN.

No chance vs OK, OSU, and WI.

And Buffalo might be 2021's Cincinatti. And I'm not joking about that.

Show me five wins next year.

Also, after three years there's four years left on his original five year $5M/yr contract.

He should have been fired after his late game clock management against Colorado in game 1 of 2019. I think we're stuck with him through 2023 bare minimum.

They have to fire Frost/Moos at the end of the 2021 season even if they don't want to. Whatever is left of the Nebraska brand is circling down the drain. Each and every loss now lessens the value of the Nebraska brand. Each insult and conflict with the Big 10 cheapens the Nebraska brand. Last week the loss and bad hikes were blamed by the coach on Iowa cheating. The lies and excuses and the inevitable losses are not going to magically go away next season and will only become worse.

And if the Huskers play a full, 12 game 2021 schedule and the team finishes 5-7 as Big E suggested earlier, I think it’s ran its course and I’d be okay with the university moving on from Frost and Moos at the end of season...

Next year is make or break for Frost and Moos. If he can somehow win at least 6 games and go to a bowl then maybe give him another year. Anything less than 6 wins he needs to hit the road. We have been more than patient with him. I look for him to fire some assistants soon.

I will take the Under and say there is little chance that Nebraska wins more then 3 games next season. They got two cupcake team wins and then after that it gets ugly!

If the Husker team that got pushed around by a subpar Illinois shows up, then Smucker is right in his prediction..

If the Husker team that showed up in Iowa City and went blow to blow with the 24th ranked Hawkeyes shows up, the Huskers will defeat Purdue..

Purdue by 1.. Hmmm..

A nice win for Nebraska, But it’s still just Frost 11th win as a Husker head coach in 3 years, that fact alone is mind boggling. They should celebrate on the way back to Lincoln but that’s it. Starting tomorrow they need to get ready again and try and win 2 games in a row. If they even play next week.

Surprising for sure... I could say they were gifted the first 17 points, but they did do some things to create those. QB looked good, O line gave him time on some plays... On the other hand maybe Purdue is after all Purdue.

5-4 with the bowl game. What a good salvage that would be... And I all the sudden feel really optimistic about that prospect.

Just beat Minnesota, then probably Michigan/Michigan State/Penn State/Maryland/Rutgers. The bottom of the East is really open and not very good, so I like those prospects. Then play an equally not-good team in a bowl game and it all doesn't sound so daunting after the win today.

That's all depending if the virus can be kept at bay.

Although I do want to keep it tight to the vest... Those first 17 points were gift wrapped by Purdue. Offense really only produced 20 points purely on their own... BUT special teams and defense are definitely part of the game. Anyway a win is a win.

The most positive thing I'll say about Nebraska Football in 2020 is that they likely have a punchers chance at finishing 4-4 now. The optics will be slightly better if they finish .500 after starting 1-4.

Now, I don't know if that says a ton about them as a team if they cap off the season by beating an undermanned Minnesota squad and then finish with a win against, let's say, Rutgers on that final weekend that may or may not even happen. But, even if the competition is basement of the Big Ten level, I guess a win is a win. 4-4 would at least look better than the 1-7 or 2-6 many thought possible.

If optics are all you have, make the most of it, I guess.

I wonder, personally, if it’s worth playing this game.. But in the end, I can see it happening. I also wonder how many of the front line 20 or so Minnesota players are starters, or see significant playing time...
