Oh that reminded me of the other thing weird about the weather the past few years. During the CWS, we could almost always count on a huge storm rolling through and ruining one of the games. That hasn't happened in a long time now.

I can't confirm it because the NWS records are malfunctioned for that month of that year, but I do believe today will be the first day we've gotten toward the mid 100's since some day in August of 2017 when it was - I think - 103. Just wonderful.

Only positive I can derive from this is that after today, the rest of the weekend at mid 90's should feel wonderful after being acclimated to this |expletive|.

And much to my liking, the forecast for Monday and Tuesday keep trending down. NWS currently has us at a high of 75 on Monday which is fricken unbelievable.

Sean Everson just declared today our "Hottest day in almost nine years". So the last hottest day must have been during the 2012 Heat Wave. Kinda hard to tell cause the NWS records don't function correctly, but it looks like it was July 25th, 2012 when it was 105 or 106.

It doesn't seem like it, but I guess it is pretty rare for highs to get solidly above 100 (I'd consider that 102+). Last time I remember was some time in August 2016 or 2017 when it got up to 103. Needless to say, I'm glad this is rare weather, and that in just a few days, I can finally catch my breath. Monday and Tuesday look NICE.

Winds shift to coming out of the north early this morning, then shift to back from the south after only a short period, then they REALLY shift to from the north Sunday night, providing us a massive, well appreciated cool down. Could get down to 52 Tuesday morning, a 53 degree cool down from the peak of today. AHHH.

Wow, that cool shot next Monday is going to feel great! Then hopefully temps will top-out in the 80s the rest of the week. CWS fans will appreciate it too. We had some quick thunderstorms pass through in my neck of the woods this morning, but very little rain.

Wow, and it keeps going down for Monday. NWS currently saying 71 for a high.

It started at 82, then to 79, 75, now 71. I hope so badly that it stays that low. If it does, then most of the day will be In the 60's. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if that is record low high territory. The record low itself is 46 for June 22nd, and the forecast is currently 52, so not terribly far off. What a relief.

It may just be me, but I never find the NWS to be very accurate for future forecasts, for that I think the local news channels are more accurate.

Pretty dramatic.. Yesterday Omaha recorded its highest temperature for the month of June in 68 years.. Then Monday we’ll have a high temp about 35 degrees lower and a could then set a record low temp for the 22nd..

Topsy-Turvy is an understatement, lol…

NWS moderated a little bit, back up to 75, but that would be okay. This is what happens when you check the forecast 5 - 10 times a day.

And the reprieve appears to be brief, with 90s appearing back at the tail end of the forecast period.

Omaha now in a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 5am..

Omaha, as is the pattern lately, will likely see no severe weather.. But a significant rain event would be nice..and much needed…

Wow, officially was only about a third of an inch, though it sounded like more than that. I guess it was in and out pretty quick. Was in the process of falling asleep when it started, but I heared some pretty close CG lighrning. Overall it gets a boo from me 4/10 tops.

Also NWS bumped tomorrow up to 76, not quite as good a cool down they were talking about, but much more appreciable than 95 or 105. Then our lousy roommate is back with 90s to finish the week. So I won't get used to 70's but it'll be hard to go back to 90+.

More than a half an inch of needed rain in my area of west Omaha. Much needed. We could also see thunderstorms this afternoon after 3pm..so there is a chance there. I’d like to see that hit because it looks like the next best chance for rain won’t be until Thursday…

I got 1.06 between the rain and the sprinkler system. I don't typically run the sprinklers when its going to rain, but its been hot and I didn't expect anything decent. That said I would guess it was 1/3 from the sprinkler and 2/3 from the sky.

Lools like a decent chance for severe weather Thursday afternoon into Friday morning. The dewpoint is supposed to be 70 and the temperature 92, so that's part of the puzzle.

SPC has added an enhanced risk area for today from Seward to Lexington from Hastings to about Norfolk. We are in the slight risk. Biggest risk is for wind and hail, small chance of an isolated tornado.

Ah, unfortunate. They all appear to be late night and very early morning events. I probably won't even try to stay up that late or wake up that early to enjoy them. Decent amount of rain forecasted though. Could be in the inch range.

NWS still saying after 3am, but Bill Randby was talking more like midnight. Still the forecast looks pretty impressive the next few days. Just too bad they happen mainly during sleepy time.

Well, that was more like it. Wind, big lightning, a bit of hail and a ton of rain. And the promise of more this afternoon. Where was this moisture in May--y'know, during tornado season?

That was a pretty big storm. I read 12,000 OPPD customers are without power this morning. Looks like much needed rain as well. More storms possibly later this afternoon too..

Also, May and June are the most active months in Omaha for severe weather- including Tornadoes…

Well, there are thunderstorms and there are thunderstorms. Similarly, not all tornadoes are created equal. I'm looking for supercells, not spinups like Hyda Hills in 2017 or West Omaha in 2016 or Lake Manawa 2016.

Roughly speaking, I figure the season for supes is May 1 - June 15. Ish. The rule of thumb has served me well, and did again last night. Thursday morning was a thoroughly enjoyable high summer squall line/derecho--but it wasn't a supe.

The last supercell I actually know of was May 11th, 2014. There have been other nasty storms since then, such as the Bellevue tornadoes. But they weren't supercells.

Know of where? Douglas County? Metro Area?

I took this one on Blair High Road at Dutch Hall Road (Douglas / Washington County lines) facing north towards Kennard.

The one I was referring to from 2014 was the last supercell that I remember hitting within Omaha city limits. There have been several within a one or two county radius in any direction since then. But I can't recall any other bonafide supercells hitting Omaha since then.

Getting pretty hairy looking out there. Wouldn't be surprised by a severe thunderstorm warning or even the sirens going off.

Further south it is hairier. It is a crazy day down closer to KS. Sarpy county had a severe thunderstorm warning, but not Omaha. In central Omaha isn't all that crazy. A couple of good CG strikes earlier, but it seems to have wound down. Might get a second wave later, but for now it has calmed down considerably.

Brad, if you're able to get out, there are about 30 autoracks on their side on the BNSF, east of MM 8 on I-29. I drove past it last night, within 30 minutes of it happening.

Yep, it was the storm. Those cars been stored on a passing track for at least six months. There are several cuts along this line, I think there's one closer to Pac Jct. and at least one south of the IA-MO line. They're those permanently-coupled 2-car units, which probably made it easier to topple.
