Ketchup/Mustard etc Condiment Thread
What's the most Omaha condiment? I say 1000 Island since that's what's on the reuben sandwich. While I like 1000 Island on a reuben sandwich, its also great with mustard.

Ketchup on steak? Chuck Norris once roundhouse kicked someone so hard that his foot broke the speed of light. You know why? That someone put Ketchup on steak.

I don’t believe that’s the case..
Now for a Burger, I like ketchup, mustard and pickles..I can take or leave Onions..
I don’t even mind Mayo on my burger every once and awhile. Speaking of Mayo, anyone dip their fries in Mayonnaise? I think it’s a British thing.. I’ve even known people who dip their fries in Mustard or even in a chocolate milkshake, lol

One of my late wife’s cousins was in town from Ireland and after buying a zillion pairs of Levi’s we met him for a steak. He ordered his well done and when talked off that ledge and going down to medium well, he reached for a ketchup bottle. I thought the waiter would need CPR. We had to convince him to try it without it. He did, and he liked it, but was struggling to understand why it was such a faux pas here when it was a common thing in Ireland.Omaha Cowboy wrote: Sat Oct 23, 2021 2:54 pmJust NEVER ketchup on a steakBrad wrote: Thu Oct 14, 2021 11:29 pmNo Mayo, Extra Onion. Yeah, I was surprised ranch was yet to be mentioned. I'm not a big fan of it, but I know people who use it for all things pizza, french fries, wings, salad, etc. I really only use it for dipping veggies sometimes. I prefer bleu cheese for my wings, red sauce for my pizza.
Are there any other "different" uses for ranch that people do, or have seen? I know I've seen some eyebrow raisers, but I can't remember the specific items it was used on.

I accidentally over cooked a thin cheap steak, and I said what the heck? I tried the Ketchup thing, because that was right at the height of the Patrick Mahomes thing. Thin steaks are for soaking in oil and sautéing for tacos or fajitas. Nothing under an inch should be cooked to eat as a steak.Busguy2010 wrote: Sun Oct 31, 2021 8:17 pmI accidentally over cooked a thin cheap steak, and I said what the heck? I agree 100%, I like a thicker steak, but my budget rarely allows for that. Said steak was about a 1/2" thick chuck eye or eye of round, I don't really remember which. But those Family Fare steaks come in clutch on a budget. I scrunch em up to make them as thick as possible and I've turned out some good looking small steaks for anywhere from $2-4 per piece. They're great for a person like myself who prefers to eat several small meals in a day.Brooklyn Decker wrote: Sun Oct 31, 2021 10:54 pmThin steaks are for soaking in oil and sautéing for tacos or fajitas. I recently got one for $.40 cause the meat department made a gaffe, probably meant to print $4.00.
But that said, I might buy a steak only every month or two as a treat, and I do usually keep it cheap. I do know what a good steak is but I'm very frugal, so I dress up very cheap cuts to the best of my ability and they have turned out very good most of the time.

Yeah, if you ever watched the Chiefs in his second year, they made a big deal about Patrick Mahomes using ketchup on steak, poked fun at him, and many memes, and actual advertisements were made because of it. So much that I decided to try it. And it ended up like a burger with ketchup. Not bad. Haven't done it since, but in my experience, if you ever fuk up a steak, ketchup isn't that bad an option.Omaha Cowboy wrote: Sun Oct 31, 2021 11:46 pm I guess I missed “everybody making a big deal about ketchup on steak”..other than it being a terribly wrong choice..

A steak at a proper steakhouse should require no sauce, butter, or extra seasoning. Putting ketchup on it is an insult to the rancher who raised the steer and the butcher who cut and aged it. It’s also a disgrace to the animal who died for your dinner.Busguy2010 wrote: Mon Nov 01, 2021 12:15 am Try mixing ketchup with Worcestershire sauce. That is basically steak sauce.
Really, ketchup on meatloaf is ok and having it on a burger are great, but a well prepared steak should stand on it’s own. Proud and pure of flavor.

I get it, really. But a lot of the time (if not most of the time), a cut of meat that reaches our table doesn't come from a happy, healthy cow, or a proud rancher. So IMO, to be snobby about steak has a lot of potential to be a farce.bigredmed1 wrote: Mon Nov 01, 2021 11:43 am A steak at a proper steakhouse should require no sauce, butter, or extra seasoning. While this may be true for some animals I do believe that this is not the case with Beef. Re: Condiment Thread
I didn't necessarily mean death. Have you ever seen a feed lot? They are not healthy or happy conditions. And actually, a lot of them do die in the winter because they freeze to death over night in their un-heated tents. And I'm not being a crusader here, I like meat, but I also recognize the truth.nebugeater wrote: Tue Nov 02, 2021 12:06 pm While this may be true for some animals I do believe that this is not the case with Beef. So I'm just saying it makes no sense to have a higher than thou perspective of how a steak should be eaten when there is little to no way to tell if it was actually a good cow or something that came from a feed lot. My bet is most of the time, the steak comes from crowded, cramped, unhealthy, unhappy cows. Especially if you are speaking of the restaurant and grocery industries. You actually have to look for and know that your cow was pasture fed to be confident that you got a good, happy, healthy steak. I know there are ranches that do practice that philosophy, but as far as what reaches our tables most of the time, I'll hedge my bets that they are mostly sourced from feed lot operations.
