Possibly…but mostly a damaging wind/hail threat here. Also flooding is starting to become a real concern with storms moving up from the south merging with storms moving in from the west basically right on top of Omaha. Going to be some very heavy rain for an extended period of time looks like.

Severe threat is rapidly decreasing in Omaha itself as the 2 lines of storms merge on top of us and things are transitioning to heavy rain in town. A new line is forming east of Omaha that will probably be the main line of severe storms soon…

I see what you mean about it dissipating. It practically fell apart in 20 miles.

Yeah, lines competed with each other killed it. Flooding is unlikely too now but hopefully some decent rain totals at least.

Still some hail potential as things cycle and try to build back up too…but risk is very low locally now.

We got some nice much needed rain in SW Omaha, at least a quarter inch. Top wind gust was maybe 20-30 mph. No hail.

Yep, even some flakes of snow in central/western NE on Monday (possibly snow accumulations even out there). No severe weather is depicted in the Omaha area over the next 7 days currently (though that can quickly change obviously).

Right now the 12z HRRR and 12z ECMWF show the heaviest rain missing Omaha and staying to our west and south (with about .5" depicted here, around an inch of rain in the areas expecting the most). Either way, some nice rain for the area :)

Left Omaha at 430PM Friday, by the time I got just south of Beatrice at around 6 tornado warnings were firing up SW of town but there was not much in the way of storm structure. Temp never got above 68 all afternoon.

Took NE-112 S then W then S again--familiar route from when I went to Fort Riley to visit my oldest daughter. Insane lightning by this time--beautiful stuff. Never got much hail. Also, never got south of the storm, and since there were reports of a confirmed TOR around Washington KS I didn't want to corepunch. Got to State Line Road, bugged out and recovered back home.

If I'd gotten to the bear's cage 10-15 minutes earlier I might have been in a position to get to US-36 and see the meso from the SE, but I didn't and that's that. I haven't seen any photos from anyone else so maybe this tornado wasn't visible. I got what I could out of the storm and that's OK.

I haven't done a moisture report in a few months, so since you brought it up, what better time...

Although this rain has been great lately, we are actually still -2.42" of moisture on the year, and now -13.11" of moisture since January 2020...

I think since we are so chronically behind in moisture, that the ground is not moist very deep, meaning any moisture we do get has little sticking power.

Snow is being reported in Grand Island now. Pretty crazy considering it's May 2nd. I realize it's not impossible to get snow this time of year but it's pretty rare for it to happen this far east this time of year...

Nice, I ended up bailing on chasing that day. My concern was it was just going to get too messy too quickly (too much forcing) and make it a difficult/frustrating chase in areas anywhere close (parts of central/southern KS along the dryline were okay but that was further south than I wanted to go this time). Still wish I was out there but I decided to hold off for a better setup for chasing...

The threat of severe weather will start increasing again this coming Sunday/Monday (May 8th & 9th). The SPC has a day 6 and a day 7 outlook for our area. Based on the 00z ECMWF (and the text in the SPC outlook), additional severe weather looks relatively likely on Tuesday (May 10th) in our area as well but the SPC decided to hold off on issuing a relatively rare day 8 outlook.

Regardless, looking like several days of active/severe weather coming up. Based on the 00z ECMWF, parts of our area could be at risk Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday which would be kind of crazy to have a stretch like that. Only time will tell though...

Day 6 outlook (Sunday May 8th):
Image

Day 7 outlook (Monday May 9th):
Image

Tuesday May 10th (text from the SPC):
"...Monday/Day 7 and Tuesday/Day 8... On Monday, the models are again in reasonable agreement concerning moisture return in the central U.S., with the richest airmass of the season advecting northward into parts of the lower to mid-Missouri
Valley. With a potential for strong instability, surface dewpoints in the lower to mid-70s F, and a shortwave trough in southwest mid-level flow, will add a 15 percent area also for Monday over parts of the lower to mid-Missouri Valley. The same potential is forecast on Tuesday by some models solutions, but due to increased uncertainty on Day 8 at the furthest out range, will hold off on adding a severe threat area."

Uggh, I posted the above forecast info about the upcoming severe weather threat on the "Nextdoor App" just to try it out once (I used to post forecast info on FB all the time and had a ~9,000 person following but have since stopped). The demographic on the Nextdoor app is older people so I'm not surprised I got the response I got but it's still annoying. "Okay, Mr Doom & Gloom". Umm nope, just sharing weather info and the potential with upcoming severe weather.

The only reason I was on the Nextdoor app to begin with was to respond to people whining about KETV (and the other local networks) severe weather coverage and how it was cutting into their shows too much (aka, completely self-centered/spoiled people). It was pretty ridiculous but again, not surprised.

I realize this post is only loosely related to weather but it needs to be said. This mentality that the "weather guy" is always wrong (untrue most of the time), sensationalizes things, hypes things up too much, is Mr. Doom and Gloom, etc etc etc. - just needs to stop. It's always from the same demographic of people who typically don't know the first thing about weather/forecasting and yet they run their mouths like experts and belittle everyone. Doing so is idiotic but it also could do real harm in causing other people to question/ignore the information being provided (hence the reason for this post). I have thick skin, I don't care about what's being said. I care about the harm it's probably (and needlessly) causing.

I'll get off my pedestal now, but I hope others will start calling these people out and sticking up for the weather guy going forward. Sure we aren't perfect, and we never will be, but the info provided is potentially life-saving information. Plain and simple..

Nextdoor is horrible. Quite possibly the worst place on the internet. Twitter is my favorite social media by a long ways, and it's a fantastic platform for weather. Twitter being real time (Not an algorithm), and the ability to search words and hash tags makes it great for weather. Then if you have Tweet Deck, it takes organizing that data to a whole other level of greatness. Also, the tweet deck has no advertisements on it!

And before all the twitter haters come jumping in, I don't follow politics. I have every politician and many political words blocked/muted. Twitter is great for Arts, Sports, and Weather.

Oh I hate Nextdoor. It is very cliqueish. I once joined to make a suggestion trying to point out a bad habit a bunch of dummies in the neighborhood had to correct it, only to get a bunch of "mind your own business", "Its my property I'll do what I want" type responses. I was like jeeze guys, it was a suggestion to improve the neighborhood, but I see we're not very neighborly. I even got a borderline threat. I was a member for all of about 12 hours. Like seriously, I would have never known I lived amongst such jerks if it weren't for the toxic Nextdoor app.

So I'm not surprised your attempt to inform your neighborhood about weather awareness was met with hostility.

Updated SPC outlooks for our area (now up to 3 of them - and there will probably be more for Tuesday/Wednesday next week). To clarify, this doesn't mean each of these days we will for sure have severe weather. Some of these will occur during overnight hours, etc and most will be pretty scattered. Still, looks like a pretty active stretch...

Something I find interesting is how narrow the temperature range has been and will be. Between noon yesterday, and noon on Friday the low is 48 and the high is about 55. That's 96 hours of practically the same temperature. And I'm loving it cause that right there is pretty much my perfect temperature.

It really wasn’t a bad day today, just a slight breeze and temps in the 50’s. It was dry most of the day till a light mist started around 6 this evening.
