While I don't actually think it will happen, this is nowhere near as implausible as people think, assuming Urban wants to coach again. Nebraska and Meyer might currently occupy a perfect juncture of desperation, ego, and cash.

Nebraska is still a name program, if a toxic job at the moment. Throw Urban an incentive-laden contract that bumps him up to Top Ten salary if he wins the conference, and match Saban if he wins an NC.

Don't kid yourself about his baggage... this state would vote for AOC for POTUS for a spot in the CFP.
Stable genius.

At least the author gets it right.
Yes, I'd be happy. The Huskers currently have no identity (other than being losers) to be scrapped anyway. I'll take Urban Meyer for 5 years. Not that I think even he would bring us back to national contention that quickly, but just to be back at 9-3, I'd take that any year now.

I would even take 6 or 7 wins with Meyer. I hate How we can barely win any games anymore. It just seems so ridiculous that with all our first class facilities, large fan base and hefty football budget 3 or 4 wins is about all that Nebraska can muster up these days, really sad.

It's times like these when I wish I was in an alternate timeline or a parallel universe where Nebraska was still on top of the CFB world.

Nebraska should be of a caliber that they don't have consecutive losing seasons, IMO. Like Cermak said above they have the facilities and resources, the name, the fanbase... it's seriously a no brainer. As I said before, I would have never thought I'd see them have such a poor record... consistently!

The sellout record would be over with if it weren't for the donors buying up the unsold tickets. I am happy to see those are typically donated to others so they can attend games (actually a positive in this mess of a football program they have right now).

As a kid born in the 70's I remember watching Nebraska football on TV (about 2-3 games a year back in those days) and listening to the radio when they weren't on TV and seeing them destroy their opponents. Those losses back then were to great teams who were hard to beat and many went on to play for national championship contention.

Now Nebraska can't even make it into the post season. Even a crappy game before Christmas isn't an option.

This isn't Nebraska football. It's a train wreck that gets worse to watch every time they go off the rails.

BTW, if they don't fix the defense, I can see some very high scoring games coming this season and I don't mean the Huskers racking up the points.

He has to win this Saturday in convincing fashion, the game should be over by halftime or mid 3rd qtr at the latest, Same with the following week. Then he must beat Oklahoma so he can go into Big10 play at 3-1. And somehow will need to find 3 more wins to save his job, it won't be easy. After watching the game again, I thought the defense was the big problem. The offense looked like the better of the two, except the O-line is a concern. Special teams held its own and looked to be improved from last year. The defense must improve quickly or he's done.

The glaring deficiencies:

Lack of open field tackling
Lack of D line pressure on the QB
Lack of D line ability to get any push. They got manipulated by NW O line
Dropped passes
O-line got zero push, so the RBs had little success
Too many unsuccessful first down pass calls, leading to unsuccessful second down runs, leading to third and long

So pretty much everything except:

QB has the juice
Punter has the juice

Well, here we go. North Dakota vs Nebraska. Betting lines don't appear to be out yet (?), but I'd guess Nebraska will be about 18 point favorites... Will they cover that? I kinda doubt it. North Dakota doesn't look that bad. I get the feel this will be kinda like that McNeese State game : kinda up in the air at the half, Nebraska only up 10. Then North Dakota steals a touchdown to make fans real nervous, only down by 3, but then the Huskers pull away.

Huskers likely win, but unless it’s 75-0 it means almost nothing. Regardless of ND’s quality of team they should not be playing at the same level that Nebraska SHOULD be playing at.

Doesn’t anyone remember when they’d wallop these small schools? Now it’s like ppl are happy if they can hang in there with teams like McNeese State. It honestly shouldn’t even be a contest.

If it’s close I’m sure someone will blame it on the balloons (or lack thereof) 🤣

I'll feel more confident if they take care of the next two games, such as 59-7 or so. But I'm just not confident it'll happen. And like you said, it still wouldn't mean much in the scope of things. It'll mean much more if they struggle to put either team away by halftime.

I see NU bouncing back and winning this game..

And 45-21 Huskers over North Dakota feels about right to me..but with this team and coaching staff, anything could happen…

Well, I should have known…The Huskers struggling and tied with North Dakota at halftime- 7-7.. Pathetic..

If Frost let’s the worm wiggle off the hook and loses this one, expect a call from your A.D. in the morning and pack your bags…

Frost won't be fired tomorrow if they lose. He will make it through September even if they lose every game this month. The key is the buyout goes down significantly once October comes around. Then again, I could be totally wrong about making it through September.

You nailed it. I had it 45-21..

In any case, winning the 2nd half 31-10 was huge. Give North Dakota credit. They gave the Huskers a game for 3 quarters.. Frost can breathe a sigh of relief- for a week..

On to Georgia Southern next week…

Iowa barely won against South Dakota State 7-3. Iowa had a FG and 2 safeties. They have a very good punter - his great punts lead to the safeties - the rest of the team……

Wyoming won 40-37 over Tulsa in Double OT. Wyoming was beaten badly by Illinois last week.

Hmm... 38-17. Tied at 17 late in the third. Not exactly the convincing win we were all looking for.

Didn't watch, but heard Frost boneheadedly and greedily used all his timeouts at the end of the half when North Dakota had the ball, in an effort to double-dip, and it helped South Dakota's touchdown to end the half. I hate how he keeps doing that, and how he will never defer the kickoff to the second half.

Nebraska wins first home game of the season against North Dakota
NU rebounded from a season-opening 31-28 loss against Northwestern in Dublin, Ireland.

Nebraska football defeated North Dakota Saturday in the Huskers’ home opener. The Huskers won 38-17 against the Fighting Hawks at Memorial Stadium — this is their 35th win in the past 37 home opening games at Memorial Stadium.

Not a terribly impressive win today, but a wins a win and it ends the 7 game losing streak. I really don't see many routes for Frost to be coaching at Nebraska next year unless he can show big improvements every week. Didn't see it today.

The only real good game on TV today was Ohio State (ranked #2) and Notre Dame (ranked #5) at the Horseshoe in Columbus. Ohio State won 21-10. That was a pretty big game. I think it's going to be Ohio State winning the Big Ten title this year.

Just a small segment of green on South/West 10 yard line, but not as much as I expected.

Husker running back earns Big Ten conference honor
Anthony Grant singled out for performance against North Dakota

The Big Ten Conference named Nebraska's Anthony Grant its Offensive Player of the Week Monday for Grant's performance Saturday against North Dakota. Grant shares the Big Ten honor with Penn State's Sean Clifford. Grant rushed for 189 yards and two touchdowns, leading the Huskers to a 38-17 win over North Dakota. No Husker running back has ran for more yards since the 2020 season. And Grant is the first Husker to be named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week since 2018.

If he can keep this up through the Big10 part of the schedule he will have a heck of a season. However , it's still early and a lot can happen. But nice start to his Husker career.👍

Duke just beat Northwestern. That's not a good sign for Nebraska. It would not totally shock me if today is Nebraska's last win of the 2022 season.

Wowwww. If there was any positive I could have pulled out of the game in Ireland, it was "well, what if Northwestern turns out to be good this year" OOF  But there's still a chance they are competitive in the West. Technically if NW finishes the season higher in the standings, then that would tell us that they Should have won the game against the Huskers anyway. Of course, its not much solace if the Huskers finish 7th, and Northwestern finishes 6th. But I'm gonna be mad if Nebraska and Northwestern finish tied for like third or fourth.

I'm watching the game right now. Unfortunately, Nebraska's trailing 14-7. I figured they'd struggle.

UPDATE: Now the game's tied at 14. I guess Nebraska's offense does have some potential. Their defense on the other hand needs improvement.

Nebraska's defense is terrible. Georgia Southern looks like a team on a mission and playing for a chance to beat a power 5 school on national TV.
Frosty is done if they lose this, actually if they win he still may be done.

Tied at 28 at halftime. Nebraska's defense needs to step up and give Georgia Southern's offense some noogies big time.
