I’m very excited that the long awaited groundbreaking ceremony is going to happen. I’m actually going to move back to Omaha soon, because Omaha is home. With all the positive growth going on it will be an added bonus to witness all the new developments when I get there. It was fun seeing FNB Tower go up, as I lived at an excellent vantage point just west of downtown near 26th Dewey at the time. I even got to see the demolition of the Medical Arts building and the massive concrete pour for FNB’s foundation.

I would doubt it. Just placeholders te make the render appear more realistic. More of an artistic touch by whoever the architect had so the renderings.

Slightly off-topic, those are interesting reflections of a couple taller buildings in the MoO tower's glass, presumably located physically behind Brad, I mean the anonymous photographer. Not that anyone on this board, myself included, would ever think those may be indications of yet-to-be-announced towers near the ConAgra area...
Read the Facebook comments on KETV's post about the Mutual Tower groundbreaking. Lost about 20 IQ points in doing so. Hopefully I'll wake up tomorrow with a hangover or something and get those 20 points back. We'll see.

I pulled this from the architect's website. Don't know if it's already posted, but a rendering from the new GLM.
That garage is massive and CPP barely comes above the 15th floor in this rendering.
That rendering looks great!…
Ciao..LiO…Peace
So… can we count on it actually looking that phallic? I wonder if there won’t be a bit of a backlash meme effect as Omaha declares sweeping pride for its great, glass dong.
I mean, the way the twins and the facade frame it don’t help at all.

You can actually see my shadow right between the couple with the red purse and blue hat. Took that photo late summer.

Could be worse. I mean, there's a reason our state capitol is sometimes called the...checks notes...Pen1s of the Plains.

Yes, even more so than the first rendering which I think I still prefer. And to think I initially wanted them to round the edges of the parking garage
From this rendering/p.o.v. it may be a shame to put another tower in front of it. Now a two story Whole Foods would be just fine.

The CPP twins are actually completely blocked out. I think you're referring to the 15 story garage podium. CPP is being completely blocked out of this view, except for the very top.

Maybe if MoO builds a 300 offset tower and mid rise will help it look less so. Could still have a ground floor whole foods though.

Groundbreaking for new downtown Omaha skyscraper Wednesday
A groundbreaking is set for Mutual of Omaha's new headquarters. 3 News Now reporter Ron Johnson joins us live downtown with some more information about it and other projects set to improve downtown.

And with that, construction has officially begun!
I was hoping the latest rendering would come out today. Looked like there might have been a few renderings on the left side of the stage, but I count see what they were.
Just finished watching the ceremony. James Blackledge reiterated that redevelopment of the midtown is a key component of this move and confirmed that if it wasn't for the streetcar, they wouldn't be making this investment. Anyway, I'm excited to get to see this project go vertical.

Great to hear, I am in the middle of watching it and haven't gotten that far yet.
A giant weird dark smudge between the light tower and FNB and the seemingly incomplete horizon details above the lower bowl along the first base side toward the outfield.
Maybe it's just because I haven't been down to the stadium in quite a while, but FNB appears significantly further west than I remember. But that's probably just some forced perspective.
And today also marks exactly 1 year since the launch of the Nebraska Examiner and their big breaking story of the Mutual of Omaha tower and street car.

I figure some of the odd things in the sky were just printing issues and also a cellphone photo of a paper handout.
As far as the perspective, I thought it was off too. But then I looked up one of Ken's WBR photos from last season and it appears to be correct...

Sure enough, there it is! Thanks for the reference photo, Brad.
