The view going westbound on the I-480 Bridge from the northbound I-29 coming into downtown Omaha is one of my "can't waits" to see. It'll no doubt be spectacular!

The view I'm looking forward to is from I-29 Southbound. (below is absolutely not my best work as I used an online editor on my tablet....but it gives you a decent idea)

This will be an impressive “impression” many new to or scarcely have visited the Omaha area will enjoy.. A Truly big city postcard for people to marvel at..

Of course, it’s what’s “inside” that impression which will matter most. That’s where Omaha will ultimately shine..

In any case, I drove by yesterday afternoon, and with what has been added to the construction site, I suspect things will really start moving forward next week…

This I-29 view has always been one of my favorites too. The other night I was headed south on Abbott Drive on the southern edge of the airport garages or just past them. As I looked toward downtown, the skyline was reflecting beautifully on the lake. This will be another great view with the new tower.

Drove by yesterday (Sunday). Nothing in the hole yet, but the barriers around the site have been moved and branding has been added too them. 14th Street should close today so possible work will begin soon.

Agree, probably have a lot of prep work to do to get ready for the main construction phase. I'm glad work has started on the site, even if it's just prep work for a while.

I think moving forward, starting this week, we’ll begin to see more activity at the actual construction site. 14th street will close today (and for 3 years until the skyscraper is completed)..

So look for things to start moving and shaking very soon…

Kind of random but I'm surprised that the Mutual tower isn't on skyscraperpage.com yet. I figured someone would have jumped at the chance to get their rendering on there. We'll wait and see, I guess!

For those keeping score at home, there's now exactly TWO southbound streets that will take you all the way across downtown without hitting a hotel or a courthouse or a park or somer other |expletive|. That's 10th and 20th. Everything else is either northbound, closed, or Too Vital to Trucks®.

People complain about bad roads, and then also complain when the roads are closed so they can be fixed. People just like to complain. Personally, I like to complain about people who like to complain.

But yeah, I get excited any time I see something closed off for construction. It is a sign of progress. I chose to live downtown so I could be in the middle of a vibrant, dense, walkable neighborhood. Every new development project makes that dream more real.

As this skyline altering building starts to take shape over the next few years, there is no way around the fact that these huge projects ( if done smartly and prudently) can have a massive, positive and lasting affect on a city.

There will always be detractors for any given project. But development like this doesn’t come around often in a city this size. It’s a huge win for Omaha and the general area.

It’s been a long time since we watched in amazement when FNB rocked the skyline with their tower all those years ago. And now I can’t wait to see steel rising for this one, as well as tracks going in the ground for the new streetcar line.

It’s a good time for urban development in the Big O.

I feel like I should complain about you complaining about the people who complain - so consider this my complaint.

I agree though, many people aren't going to be happy no matter what they do. For whatever reason, these people ALWAYS find the negatives with everythiing. Not a good way to live life if you ask me.

I agree, there is a difference between observing how things are and looking at ways to make them better or just simply complaining. Life is too short to complain all the time.
