Nebraska lands a commitment from Bradley transfer big man Rienk Mast

A first-team All-Missouri Valley Conference selection last season, Mast led Bradley with 13.8 points and 8.0 rebounds per game. He isn’t the level of ball-handler as Walker, but he shot 51.8% from the field and 35.3% on 3-pointers.

I looked him up, 6-10 240 which we definitely need in the Big 10.

I didn't even know we were in on him. Just filled one of our biggest needs. Looks like a great get.

Also, his assists went from 1.3 and 1.4 his first two years, to 2.4 last season. That's a nice follow up to Derrick Walker's playmaking for a big man.

Love this!

I am very familiar with Rienk Mast. Nebraska got a very solid player here, and an even better teammate and human being. Very solid player, good shooter and a good passer. Big get for Nebraska.

Former Charlotte forward Brice Williams transferring to Nebraska

Former Charlotte forward Brice Williams is taking his talent to the Nebraska Cornhuskers via the NCAA Transfer Portal, per Robin Washut of HuskerOnline. The news comes after the Cornhuskers landed former Bradley forward Rienk Mast earlier in the afternoon, signaling a huge day for Nebraska basketball.

The 6-foot-7, 190-pound forward out of Huntersville, North Carolina averaged 13.8 points and 5.3 rebounds over the 2022-2023 season with the 49ers. That was enough to attract many suitors in the portal, but the Cornhuskers won out in the end. After spending the last three seasons with Charlotte, Brice Williams is hoping to make an impact with Nebraska, and there aren’t many reasons to doubt his ability to do so.

Latrell Wrightsell Jr is visiting Minnesota and Alabama as well. I imagine he will visit Creighton too, as the below article states the Jays have had some contract with his Dad, who played there:

He also appears on 1620 most Monday's just after 9AM with Sharp and Handley. You can stream it or they do post the replays on their website and app. He's really good on there. Always entertaining and informative.

I didn't realize it until this week that he's a fellow Omaha Central grad.

Two transfers commit to Huskers

The Nebraska men’s basketball team received commitments from two players on Wednesday. Both intend to join the Huskers via the NCAA Transfer portal. Charlotte’s Brice Williams and Bradley’s Rienk Mast announced they would join Fred Hoiberg’s squad. Williams was the leading scorer for Charlotte last season, averaging 13.8 points per game. The 6-foot-7 guard led the 49ers to a College Basketball Invitational tournament title, winning 2023 CBI MVP honors.

Mast was a major contributor for Bradley last season. He led the team in points per game (13.8) and rebounds (8), helping the Bradley finish as the Missouri Valley Conference regular season champions. At 6-foot-9, the junior from the Netherlands will be an option down low for the Huskers.

Really surprised that Creighton didn't make Wrightsell's final three. After reading this last week I thought they were a lock:

Creighton: “Ryan Nembhard entered the transfer portal. My dad, Latrell Wrightsell Sr., went to Creighton. I will base my decision on the best fit but I have not talked to them yet. They have talked to my dad and they want somebody to come in and fill that spot. They want me to continue the legacy within the family of going there.”

Full article on some of the teams that were in on him (you can see the ones before he cut his list to NU, Alabama and Minnesota):

More on Nick Janowski from the Milwaukee Journal:

Janowski chose Nebraska over reported in-state offers from Marquette and Wisconsin, as well as other offers from Georgia Tech, Iowa, Iowa State, USC and Virginia Tech. The 6-foot-3 guard recently helped lead Pewaukee, along with Iowa State commit Milan Momcilovic, to a third-straight WIAA Division 2 state title.

Janowski was the Pirates' second-leading scorer for the 2022-2023 season, scoring 23.2 ppg. He also led the team in assists (4.9 apg) and steals (1.4 spg), and was second on the team in rebounds (6.5 rpg) for the season. For his career, Janowski has scored 1,374 points. After missing the first six games of the 2022-2023 season due to injury, Janowski returned to a Pirates team that lost one game the rest of the season en route to their third-straight title.

The four-star recruit is ranked the 102nd-best recruit in the country for the class of 2024 according to On3 Industry Rankings – a composite ranking of individual rankings from ESPN, 247sports, Rivals and On3.

South Florida is definitely the outlier of Javian McCollum's final 3. I saw where his hometown of Ft Myers is about 2 hours straight south of South Floriday (Tampa).

Yesterday on his weekly appearance on Sharp and Handley, Jacob Bigelow mentioned Hunter Sallis and his upcoming visits to Wake Forest and Nebraska. They asked about other teams in the mix. Sounds like Georgetown is making a serious push and by the way he talked might be the favorite, if not they are right in there for his commitment.

Nebraska could almost end up with a log jam if everything breaks right. They are final 3 with both Wrightsell Jr and McCollum. Three schools are being prominently mentioned with Sallis (Nebraska, Wake Forest and Georgetown, though there could be more that just haven't been mentioned, including KU and Creighton, who were both in his final 8 a couple years ago.

Nebraska is down to 2 spots I believe, or at least 2 guard spots. What happens if all three pick Nebraska (I acknowledge that's unlikely).

On 1620 yesterday, Bigelow continued to say no news is good news in regards to Keisei. He did say it’s getting late to play pro overseas this year. He does think they are probably investigating the NBA. Said to expect some news around first of May on his possible return.
