As to the separation of departures and arrivals on multiple levels, it’s just plain dumb not to do it.
This was kind of point in the last post I get it that this is a message board but we've known for 10 years that they're not going to do it. Keep discussing away, but it isn't going to happen.

Run the entrance driveway through the garage. Leave the existing traffic lanes for arrivals only.
It isn’t rocket science, folks.
It is evidently more complicated than what you think. And they've subsequently made design decisions i.e the 2nd garage and particularly the rental car center that would make it even more complicated yet.

I’m not complaining- I’m calling them out for continuing to do it wrong. And it IS wrong. It is nonsense and I will say just that so long as their plans are such.
I think criticism is fair and they certainly aren't above reproach. I will say as you noted that like you, I have generally defended OAA. And quite frankly, what they've actually ended up doing over the past 10 years is pretty good. The rental car facility is top notch. The new parking garage is nice, etc. So I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt for now especially given we haven't seen anything terminal specific. And the terminal is really what ultimately matters here.
Like I said I don't think they're above reproach though. The demand based master plan makes a ton of sense for a lot of reasons. One of the significant ones is that as non-taxing entity they need to pay for stuff. So a new parking garage when you can afford it makes sense. You want to ultimately do the terminal roadway and canopy, we'll here's $40 million in Federal funds. Again that makes sense. I agree the worry there aesthetically is that, yeah the rental car facility looks awesome. I have no doubt the terminal building is going to be great, but I'm curious to see if using a bunch of different architects each time is going to make a cohesive product from the outside. Again other people will disagree, I think that is less important than the terminal itself, but I recognize it is still an issue. I'm still not convinced it won't be either when all is said and done. Like I've been saying lets wait and see what they do.
And again like I said talking about the upper and lower roads or a temporary terminal or building the new terminal at a different spot or building an airport in Ashland are beating a dead horse to me. We all know it isn't going to happen. Would I like to have known why they dropped the upper and lower roads a decade ago? Yeah I'd be curious. But I also know it isn't going to happen either... Discussing it every 6 months i.e. the upper lower road serves no purpose.

I was soooooooo on board for the canopy. This is just so…. It’s just so…. Omaha. Well I guess I changed my mind. Nail on the head, target audience approves. Low risk, conservative, functional without style. These guys are geniuses! So far they’ve designed and laid out plans for the Subaru of cities perfectly.
Don't get this part, because I'm the only one that thinks it is fine. I just don't judge airports by their canopy's maybe I'm the weird one here... Could it be better? Perhaps. Again I'm not a canopy expert. The only difference I see between the renderings and Grand Rapids is one is flat and one is wavy. And Grand Rapids almost had to go with something like that to clear the glass elevator shaft.

what are they trying to hide? Did the airport just give it to Hawkins or did they publicly bid the work like a typical public infrastructure project? If it wasn't publicly bid, I bet there is a 30% premium being paid. I'm in the industry and know this stuff very well for my career.
This part also makes no sense. The airport solicits bids in the public record, historically has had meetings for bigger construction projects i.e. most of Our best terminal information is from the initial airport terminal development bid meeting and then now Holder's initial subcontracter bid meeting. The fact that Hawkins got the canopy project, Holder got the terminal, and Haussman got the parking garage/rental facility is a pretty good sign they're conducting competitive bidding. And again holder just conducted bidding for the first phase of the terminal development with the CUP.
