Busguy2010 wrote: Wed Aug 30, 2023 9:22 pm Eh, weird stuff happens all the time. A team is a team, but it'd be impossible to keep a hold on 100% of the players 100% of the time. The best medicine is a win tomorrow.

Speaking of which, there's been no talk about the first game of the season. Not here, not at work, not in public, not with friends. There's just no excitement. You'd hardly know the first game is tomorrow. The Huskers have just flat out been that bad in recent years, there's just no buzz.

That said, I believe Minnesota is a winnable game. I really think it'll be a close one and I'll throw my prediction out there. I think it'll be a 3-point swing that could go either way. Unfortunately both my head and my heart predict a husker loss.

Minnesota 27-24. Hope I'm wrong.
Agree, stuff happens you can't watch every player all the time. Still thought disappointing.
I think if Nebraska can just play a good clean game tomorrow and avoid a blow out loss. I will feel like it will validate that we are pointed in the right direction. But the Colorado game to me is almost a must win.

Minn 28 NU 20.

The wait is over: Nebraska vs. Minnesota is here!

The Big 10 football season is here! Thursday night coach Matt Rhule and his Nebraska Cornhuskers take on coach PJ Fleck and the Minnesota Golden Gophers. Both coaches bring a lot of hype and positivity to their programs. Is the hype real? We will let you know whether to buy in! And we have your first look at Friday night's tilt where the Michigan State Spartans host the Central Michigan Chippewas. Spartans coach Mel Tucker won't tell anyone who his starting QB will be. But we will make an educated guess. (We are 1-0 after predicting Kyle McCord would be named the starter at Ohio State!)

So three possessions in a half. Zero points. I was BEGGING them to kick the |expletive| field goal. Down 3-0. I don't care how they win, just that they win. 3 points left on the table.

Terrible non-read by Sims locking on the covered receiver and missing the open guy. Terrible time for a false start. Terrible waste of time replay that sure looked like Ervin scored.

Not so terrible...being down 3 on the road and receiving in the second half.

Game's over. Nebraska lost 13-10. I guess you can't expect Matt Rhule to change things overnight. I certainly didn't.

I really can't believe they lost. Ugly game for sure, but it was totally within grasp. I disagreed with the call to go for the touchdown instead of the field goal at the end of the first half, and obviously the intercepted pass to try to ice the game. Just run the ball and punt. That just does not wash the bad taste out of my mouth. It would been a bad win, but a win. But here we are... again.

A few minutes to go, nursing a 7 point lead on the road, and they put in and call a play for a rb that they have told us was having fumbling issues through out fall camp. Inexplicable in my book.

During his press conference, Rhule kept admirably defending Grant and stating Grant felt awful and it was his fault we lost. Could not agree more. I don't blame the player at all. That's on the coaches for putting him in that position. Set him up to fail.

Before they ran that play, I literally said "oh no, he hasn't touched the ball yet". And before I could utter "he's gonna fumble" he fumbled.

I called a lot of the plays that ended up poorly, including the intercepted pass that essentially ended the game. I called the QB sneak as well, which totally would have worked, except the false start. And also called the intercepted pass in the end zone that followed. I was literally trying to tell them what not to do before they actually did it. Was about ready to pull my hair out.

They didn’t choose to go for a touchdown over kicking a field goal. Sims threw an interception on 2nd down, there was enough time and downs to run another play before kicking the FG.

True, but my gut was telling them to run the ball each play. Worst come to worst, they don't get the touchdown and kick a field goal. The outcome of the game was that non field goal.

Colorado just knocked off a ranked TCU team on the road, pretty impressive to say the least. An amazing start for the Buffs with coach Prime. I don't see Nebraska winning next week, no way in heck. Will start the season 0-2.

Shedeur Sanders is the real deal. Fun to watch. Same as the team as a whole. No way nebraska wins next week. I won't be surprised if they're utterly embarrassed. First home game for Colorado, team and fans will be juiced. I'm scared for the Skers.

I was 100% wrong about Colorado this year. I thought their lines would be a mess with good skill players. They look a lot more cohesive than I thought they would. I still think next weekend will be close, I have a feeling the TCU defense is very bad.

2-10 is a very, very real possibility at this point - especially if Sims either gets hurt or can't stop throwing to the wrong team.

4-8 seems more likely. But looking at what was supposed to be a "go bowling schedule", I see Louisiana Tech and Northwestern (maybe?) as the only easy outs the rest of the way.
Stable genius.

Thoughts on the Huskers First Game vs. Minnesota

Last week’s game marked the inaugural season opener for the Huskers under Coach Rhule. Striking the balance between strong determination and unwavering persistence is crucial, and Damon Benning believes the Nebraska coaching staff demonstrated their conviction. Drawing a line between offering excuses and providing explanations hinges on taking responsibility, and the Nebraska staff is unafraid to do just that.

It's prediction time. I think the skers are gonna be pretty well beat. If I was a betting man, I'd probably put $100 on Colorado. I think they're easily gonna cover the spread which unsurprisingly has flipped to -3 Colorado.
A lot of people who took colorado +2.5 are gonna make a lot of money. Although I hope for a different outcome, I'm gonna be a Colorado fan after this Saturday. If they get by the Skers, I'm rooting for them to go undefeated.

We can say the Husker defense was a strong point, but Minnesota's offense is not good. Colorado is gonna hang at least 35, question is how much can the Skers score.

Colorado 41 - Huskers 24

Not at all impressed with Nebraska's offense from what I've seen. The defense is respectable and will give Colorado more headaches than TCU did.

Did you stumble into Ralphie's feed bag!? NEVER ever root for Colorado!!

I think you're making too much of NU & CU's first game. Colorado beat a TCU team(with a mostly new offense) by 3 points. Colorado still gave up over 500 yards defensively. The TCU defense without a doubt had a bad game. I'm not sure why you think Minnesota's offense is bad? They have a solid QB and a talented receiving core. Nebraska's strength is definitely the defense. Even one less turnover(out of 4) by the offense might have yielded a win. If Colorado scores 40pts on Nebraska it'll be because of offensive turnovers.

I'm not saying Nebraska for sure wins but they have a reasonable shot to win this game if Sims can limit the turnovers. The NU game plan should be pound the rock, win the time of possession, keep Sims in high percentage play action throws, and don't give up big plays on defense. Getting Henrich and Prochazka back also helps.

Colorado 37, Nebraska 13

Not because their offense is that good (they are pretty good) but I can see Nebraska with a pick 6 or 2 in there. The dude that plays both ways for CU is a stud and looks like an early Heisman candidate. I could see him taking a few away from us.

I really, really, REALLY hope I'm wrong....

After last weeks disappointment with the Huskers once again snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, I’m going to play the law of averages here..

NU- 31
CU- 30..

Being a Dallas Cowboys fan, I’m naturally pulling for Deion to do well. But being a NU fan and alumni, I’d never pull for the Colorado Buffalos vs NU.. Ever!…

Ciao..LiO…Peace
Go Cowboys!
