I'll be honest, I still don't quite understand what Andre's Toiletries is. Sounds like a small plate-esque bar?

Never the less, I hope Tondre's Artillery succeeds.

I had heard Andrés Tortillery was temporarily closed. Has anyone been in (or by) it recently?

Their website says closed until January.

I rememeber in May that someone had crashed a car through their front door. Not sure if their still being closed is related or not.

Feels like another temporary closure being extended for reasons completely unrelated to the original reason. Considering how often you hear complaints from restaurateurs about the low margins I find it fascinating that places like Andrés Tortillery and Twisted Cork Bistro (to name a nearby example of the same) can be closed for many months. I assume they have to continue to paying rent and utilities during that time. 6 months of One Pacific Place rent can't be cheap. Meanwhile, in 2020, many restaurants could barely scrape by a couple of months without revenue.

There must be more going on here. No restaurant wants to close from Thanksgiving to New Years and then open back up in January. With the exception of Valentines day, restaurants hate January and February.

This definitely goes into the “How can this possibly make any sense?” category.

Maybe waiting until January because of staffing shortages is so they can scoop up all the seasonal retail workers hitting the streets.

And listen to crickets as everyone stays home in January to keep warm while paying on their holiday bills.

So, January has come and gone... They've been closed since May 2022.

Looks like they're sort of reopened.... They're doing drinks, light appetizers, and late night dancing?

It looks like they've officially changed their name from Andrés Tortillery to Andrés Salsa Dancing.

That represents about a 180’ switch in their business plan.

The hours are listed as ‘Saturday 9 PM-2 AM’. I’m sure the landlord is thrilled.

Any bets on when the first encounter is with drunk and disorderly patron is or when the city council gets complaints?

Well, I’m somewhat familiar with salsa dancing (as a spectator). The crowds it draws are more into dancing than drinking, from my observations.

I heard this place closed, but it may just be someone reporting it's no longer a restaurant. Can anyone confirm?

I drove by today about 2:30 pm. The front door was open and they had a sort of sandwich board placed nearby. But all of the patio furniture had been removed.

I was at One Pacific Place today and noticed that all of the signage for Andre’s Tortillery has been removed.
I have lost count as to how many restaurants have operated in that spot over the years. I wouldn’t be surprised if it is more than 10.

They tried to make Mexican/Tex-Mex a little upscale and nobody around here is much into that. A similar thing happens with Chinese cuisine. No matter how nice the décor, how stellar the service, and how fancy it's plated, people will look at the menu and see a $15 burrito and instantly think of a place they can go and get the same thing for $5. It's a little unfair to any restaurateurs trying to elevate certain ethnic cuisine, but that's just how it is. Everyone is just going to scoff at the prices and then mention some dive that has better food for half the price.

I’m not sure I completely agree with that. There are a few places like Hacienda Real, Copal, and Muchacho Alegre that go a step above and seem to be doing well.

Andre’s, in my opinion, was just lousy food.

The new el Milagro Mexican restaurant opening soon in Pepperwood, next to Baker’s, has advertised themselves as aiming for customers who appreciate higher end Mexican cuisine. That typically does not include burritos.

Andre's was never a serious attempt at a restaurant, as far as I'm concerned. It was basically concocted to keep the Popp's from having more competition at Wheatfield's, and to give one of the kids something to do. The kitchen was shared, as was the staff.

One Pacific Place would be much better off without any of them, but that's another topic. Kind of.

I didn't realize the kids were in the business. They are down to a dingle restaurant now. I figured the old man was finally starting to move towards retirement. Are the kids jerks too?

There is a kid (by kid I mean he's probably in his 40s) that is involved as a manager. I haven't interacted with him much to know either way what he's like.

Enough has been said about stepdad and mom that I don't need to pile on here any more than I already have, but it's fair to say I agree with basically all of it and I won't patronize them under any circumstances.
