Well thank goodness for that. They're probably communists, too.

SW Omaha Walgreens the site of a cutting...
I'm only putting this here because I've always found it quite ironic how dumb people can be. Now, there's no business in committing a violent crime at all - however, IF you are going to do this, why would you choose to do it across the street from a Cop Shop?

Just proof that dumb criminals will never cease to amaze me with their smart decisions.

Re: Crime in Omaha
From the Omaha Police Officer's Association Facebook page:
It’s unfortunate that, in the same week one of our parks was nominated for a national award, it also had to be shut down early due to juvenile violence. Monday night, the Gene Leahy Mall was closed early after a crowd of approximately 300 unaccompanied minors gathered and began fighting in the park. Officers responded, arresting juveniles who were later released to their parents.
It’s time for Omaha to take serious action against our skyrocketing juvenile crime problem and our police understaffing crisis!

Isn't it odd that this mass 300 juvenile incident happened on the same week that Gene Leahy Mall was nominated for a national award. Something smells that this was coordinated.Jins123 wrote: Thu Mar 20, 2025 5:15 pmCan’t take this post serious with an election year and their refusal of utilizing the new shiny juvenile justice center in the heart of the cityGreg S wrote: Wed Mar 19, 2025 3:25 pm From the Omaha Police Officer's Association Facebook page:

Literally this same Police Officer's Association is endorsing and promoting Mike McDonnell. Does anyone know who funds this Association and their true intentions? They blame mayor Jean Stothert for the understaffed police force, as if she somehow is responsible for hiring police.
I wasn't impressed a bit with Mike McDonnell's debate performance for running for mayor. All I saw was a cold-blooded, person with no real solutions to present. I sensed no Omaha passion, coming from him but sensed his passion to stop and derail the streetcar and expansions.
Home sweet, home...Omaha!

A rider last night (Friday) said many of the bars around the stadium stopped allowing people in at 11:30 PM. Did anyone else experience this or know the reason why?

Re: 2025 CWS
Last night sounds like it was a mess around the CWS. And not a good follow up to Friday. According to Omaha scanner police had to be called to Old Mattress factory for some unruly patrons that refused to leave. Followed up a shooting in the area. Casings found and some e taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the head.
We were close by at that time and didn’t realize what had happened. We were at Steelhouse for Yachtley Crew. After the show around 11 were walking to car (my wife works for a Berkshire insurance company in the World Herald building) at my wife’s parking space for work under 480.
Lots of fire truck and ambulance fighting traffic along with police moving quickly towards Charles Schwab Field area.
There were just tons of people in the area. Including families. Just not a good finish to the night for Omaha.

I won't attend a game this year due to the potential issues. Smart enough to know it CAN happen anywhere, but given the sheer number of attendees at this type of event, it simply breeds idiots - which can then lead to violence and unfortunately that builds up to using guns.Greg S wrote: Sun Jun 15, 2025 11:00 am Last night sounds like it was a mess around the CWS. First off, the shooting was at 11th and Douglas, South of the Capitol District, next to the Gene Leahy Mall, and closer to the old market than the ballpark.djc311 wrote: Tue Jun 17, 2025 8:08 am I won't attend a game this year due to the potential issues. Secondly, I posted this last year and I will repeat it now. The problems that usually happen are not at the stadium and not with baseball fans. About an hour after the last game on a Friday or Saturday, walk from 12th and Mike Fahey to 17th and Mike Fahey and observe the people. The baseball fans in their shorts in t-shirts are walking west, and a younger crowd dressed like they are going to the club are all walking east. This year, I believe all the games have ended before 10pm and the problems around the stadium haven't started until much later.
Finally outside of the stadium has a hardened perimeter, the entrances all have metal detectors, and there are police everywhere inside. In addition to the stadium security cameras, the police also have their own security cameras set up too. Nobody should be worried about going to the actual games.

I agree with that, mostly. However, as a lifetime resident of Omaha, I also enjoy the ability to walk around the Old Market or other downtown areas. Honestly, we shouldn't have to go home at 10pm on a weekend to feel safe. Re: Crime in Omaha
Based upon where we live, if we make the trip to a CWS game, we'd also want to spend time downtown doing other things. Did the CWS cause the issue, probably not. Could it have occurred any other weekend, perhaps. However, the additional volume of visitors downtown during this time could affect what transpires.almighty_tuna wrote: Tue Jun 17, 2025 9:28 amBut that has nothing to do with the CWS.djc311 wrote: Tue Jun 17, 2025 8:48 am I agree with that, mostly. My point is, we should feel safe downtown whether it's during the CWS or any other time of year. A considerable amount of violence takes place near the Old Market. If it's a safe zone to be in the parking lots near the stadium then that's great. I would think patrols would be significantly increased during heavy-traffic events across all of the downtown area... at least from the stadium to the Old Market.

Re: Crime in Omaha
The issues at Rocco's (next door to the stadium) Friday and Mattress Factory (adjoining baseball village) Saturday were definitely CWS related unfortunately.
I can say on Saturday there was definitely a "heightened" energy and issues. We saw a ambulance, rescue squad and lots of police moving from downtown, north around 13th and Cass at 11PM. Not sure how much earlier the issues started because we were inside Steelhouse before that.
I'm not stopping going downtown during the games but at the same time I don't think it's good for the event or anyone involved to continue on the current course or just brush this stuff off.

He was instrumental in getting the healthcare funding for those first responders honored. He has also done work for military veterans, specifically the K2 unit that was exposed to radiation in Afghanistan. I suppose some will argue this occurred too late at night to be tied to the CWS game Sunday afternoon. There has to be some association with the elevated activity level at these events.

IMO, why bother exhuming someone when you're investigating a cold murder case, only to potentially reduce the charges to "conspiring to commit murder".
Seriously - what's the point?

Anybody else had their car broken into?
I have an old truck that quite honestly isn't worth the $600 I'd get if I scrapped it. However, it holds a special place in my heart. Somebody popped the lock out last night, and they stole nothing. So that tells me they wanted the truck... Why?
Very puzzling. And I was up til 2 or 3 last night, so it had to have happened between then and dawn. I just dont get it.
I imagine it was a crackhead or something. Some sort of weirdo. Luckily since this isn't the first time somebody attempted, or did break into my truck, I 100% always put a club on the steering wheel. I don't think they were ready for that. I don't keep anything of value in it, and the last thing they're donna steal is the truck itself. At least they were decent enough to close the door so the battery didn't run out. SMH.

I had my car broken into about ten years ago in out Huntington Park. Found my work bag on the side of the road on 147th-ish and Maple, must have realized there was nothing valuable in it. Sitting in parking lot waiting for my wife, an elderly woman next to me, clubbed her steering wheel (first time I'd seen one used in years), went to the other side of the car to check for something in back seat, before returning to driver side, removing the club.

Clubs might be a thing of the past, but it sure saved me the other day. I bet most people under the age of 30, or even 40 don't even know what the heck they are. I just like to imagine a state of confusion on the face of whoever decided to break into my car. I have no clue what their ultimate goal was, but I imagine that club on the steering wheel gave them a fit, and I credit the club as the reason my vehicle isn’t two states over by now.

There's also the option of another Swivel, Clove, 72nd & Farnam, etc, etc. I always forget Target is even there and drive by it every day. Because even by Target metrics, its not, or at least in the beginning, isnt even a full on Target. So, for as long as its been there, and Walmart down the street, I hardly ever gave it a thought.almighty_tuna wrote: Mon Apr 13, 2026 9:20 amWhat, and lament the opportunity for another corner gas station and car wash? I'll take the Target.Busguy2010 wrote: Sun Apr 12, 2026 9:45 pm Given hindsight, letting that land go to Target has to be on the short list of O-mistakes.

I wanted to wait for the facts. It sounds like a woman attempting a kidnapping cut a child, and the police shot her dead. Most of the time nowadays, unfortunately rightfully so is to assume the worst. This was isolated, I wouldnt have been in any danger. So I'll just add this to the list of incidents that have happened at all three of the Warmarts that are closest to me.
Kudos to police. This place has long had their presence, this is just another reminder its getting pretty bad. You dont immediately think "|expletive| hole" when you think Aksarben, but this really is my least favorite location to go to.

That Walmart is haunted. It was built upon sacred musical grounds and the spirits have looked unfavorably upon its development.

The pictures of the incident and the follow-up photo of the boys' cuts this morning are pretty sobering.
As more is learned about the attacker's history, it is frustrating, sad, infuriating, and many other things all at once.
