Today I took advantage of the warm sunny weather to take some photos from above... There's a lot of construction going on today in the heart of downtown.

Excellent photos thanks. The tower is nearing completion, It has been 4 years ago almost exactly that Mutual announced it.

Thanks! Seems like the tower really took off during the past 12 months. Sometime in 2026, we'll probably get our first glimpse of how the tower will be lit up at night.

Seriously though, I was drawing a cross section for reference to try and scale off that model.

I was assuming Brad's Batman to be 1 floor off. The way I see things, that steel box is likely the "floor" that HVAC equip will sit on. They'll want that enclosed in the "Bat Ears" for a clean look. So the outside points would end up one floor higher than Brad's illustration.

But I'm no architect, just trying to visualize it..

Typically, on most commercial projects, screening for HVAC isn't a full level above, but considering we are discussing skyscrapers, the roof for Mutual wouldn't be visible anywhere but the rooftop of FNBO, if even... Since Mutual's crown is still structural, the final height they decided on could be within a general range. My guess would say the crown will extend 10-20' above the HVAC level, and if I remember correctly, the office floorplates are 17' apart, so I don't think we are in disagreement there.

And since Brad's drawing is a section, his drawing also shows around 15-20' above the HVAC level, so sounds like we all have the same idea.

Does anyone know the exact elevations at ground level of First National Bank Tower vs the Mutual of Omaha Tower? I've tried looking at topographical maps etc, but I can't seem to nail down the exact figures.

Woodman = 1091 (SW Corner of the building that is level with the lobby)
Mutual = 1037 (Assumed based off the 14th street elevation)

Yes, but we don’t yet know what the 677’ height of the tower is based on, roof height? Highest occupied floor? Crown height? Since the steel was added above the core, MoO tower is already clearly taller than FNBO tower when viewed at a distance, and there’s still likely 30’ of crown on top of that.

I said long ago that it would be taller than the core and that the crown would add 30’ or more, but nobody cared to accept it, and some disputed it.

It should be the architectural top which would be the top of the crown… I agree with Brad and Esjael, it should appear about 35’ taller when completed.

I understand I can be obnoxious at times, and I really don’t mean to be. All I want to do is be helpful and informative. With the way those long-range shots were done, it makes the original Mutual of Omaha Building look like it's 460 feet tall and way larger. If it were in Downtown Omaha and had been at that height, then our skyline would actually be beating several others.

Possibly because we have an instinct for prime numbers? I dunno, but it feels like a milestone has been achieved and a new one has opened up.

Is it too windy to fly steel today? I noticed the tower crane trolley is all the way against the cab not moving and the crane is pointed in to the wind. The flags on the old FNBO are straight out too.

The WOWT Children's Hospital Camera has a great view of downtown; the new tower really does add a lot of mass to the skyline.
