We've been meaning to try it. Good to hear the positive review.

I thought we already had a thread for this place. Anyways, we went after it opened and just had a terrible experience. I'll never go back. We have so many other great Mexican restaurants in Omaha.

We liked the place but tried to go there twice for lunch and realized once we got there they were only open for lunch on certain days.BIGO88 wrote: Fri Aug 28, 2026 10:00 pm I saw that hes changing the name/rebranding this to Javis Cantina Mexican Kitchen.

I wonder why the rebrand? Are they aiming for a different slice of the Mexican food pie?

I think I've been to all of Javi's different concepts over the years. This was the only one that ever disappointed me. First off, wasn't busy at all, secondly, not differentiated in the "sit down mexican food" space, of which there are dozens of different options, from tex-mex to authentic, to more upscale.nativeomahan wrote: Tue Sep 01, 2026 5:30 pm I wonder why the rebrand? Honestly, glad for the reboot here. Excited to see what they come up with menu wise.

I think the rebrand allows them to connect better with people familiar with their quick service restaurants.

Stopped by a couple of weeks ago, and we had mixed results. My chimichanga was great, but my daughter's tacos were merely OK. Rather greasy.
But Javi's posted on Facebook yesterday that this concept is struggling.

Omaha, today you gave me something I really needed: hope.
Seeing people fill Javi’s Cantina for our blessing today left me speechless. So many told me they saw yesterday’s last-minute post and came to visit for the very first time. Some didn’t even know we were here.
Thank you for showing up, sharing a meal, and giving us a chance. Today reminded me that we have something worth fighting for.
A heartfelt thank-you to Father Michael for blessing our business, our team, and this new beginning.
To our friends from The Corn Dog Company, OSO Mix, Avila’s Market, Santoro’s, Enrique, our Mi Campo representative from Southern Glazer’s, Neyome—who makes some amazing cheesecake—and so many others: thank you for taking time out of your own busy lives to stand beside us. Local businesses supporting each other means so much.
To my wife, Mandy, Paul, and our amazing staff: thank you for everything you did to make today happen. I couldn’t do this without you.
I also want to be honest: slower sales have meant operating with a small team. As business grows, we plan to hire and add coverage where it’s needed so we can serve you more promptly and consistently. In the meantime, we’re working on doing better with every visit. Thank you for your patience, and please reach out to me directly if we fall short.
When you support us, you’re supporting the people who work here and the families who depend on them.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. Please keep visiting, telling people about us, and giving our new menu a try. We still have work ahead, but today gave us a reason to believe in this next chapter.
