Downtown Stadium/ORoyals ownership change...????
Didn't we already (somehow) miss out on a college baseball museum? It would be nice to have our own to blow the other one away. I mean college baseball and Omaha go together like D'Shawn and smoking.

Surely Omaha could do better than this?

A search of for a hall of fame turned this up. If nothing else, it could start out as a world series hall of fame. Perhaps create an organic exhibit that every year would add the photos and autographs of all the players that attend.
I just wish I could win the lottery and have the money to donate towards this.

I think it would go over very very well. Heck the area (zoo/gardens/blatt) already is a big tourist destination.

Minor league parks go family friendly
Minor league parks go family friendly
http://www.omaha.com/index.php?u_pg=38&u_sid=2207598A building boom over the past decade has turned drab minor league ballparks into showplaces of America's pastime. Combining brick facades and architecture that blends the ballparks into their urban settings, they are a far cry from their concrete and steel predecessors.
Many have the same fan-friendly features found in the major leagues but without the high prices. And, combined with nearby attractions, a trip to the ballpark can be part of a perfect getaway.

Even CNN is reporting on the trend for right size/family friendly minor league ballparks.

New stadium dead for now
Plans are under way to install mesh covers over all but two outfield sections for Royals games next year at Rosenblatt Stadium. The project will likely include covering the seats in corner sections along the right- and left-field lines.
Omaha General Manager Doug Stewart said that next year, 16 of the 18 outfield sections will be covered, and said the Royals would renew a push to sell the other two sections - the ones closest to center field - for a "party deck" setting on selected occasions.
http://www.omaha.com/index.php?u_pg=38&u_sid=2223991
(Principal owner Bill) Shea said there isn't much happening lately on the new stadium front. He said the Royals would like to play in a new stadium, but are content at Rosenblatt.
"Our view is the same as it's been since Day One," he said. "Would we like a new stadium? Absolutely. We think it would be a great economic engine for Omaha - especially if we could get it downtown. But we've got to make sure the city, the chamber and the Omaha Royals are standing side-by-side to get it done and to get it financed properly."
And he said that his group would be involved financially if a new stadium would move forward.
"I'm not sure I can come up with a dollar amount, but we recognize that it's a public-private partnership," Shea said. "So either through the lease agreement or direct-equity participation in the project, we know we're going to be there - and we should be. We want to make sure we can get the most attractive financing package we possibly can, because then it'll be that much more profitable for the city and certainly for the Royals."

Well at least this party deck will get people used to what a smaller stadium can offer. This will also be a plus for the CWS crowd.

Its already there, the party deck is that area behind center field, and the seats he is talking about are the two small sections next to it.

Oh yeah, I know what you're talking about. Seems that it would be hard to minimize those seats though. Unlike the Qwest when they put the black curtains in front of the empty seats, it seems like here they would just be big expanses in the outfield with tarps over them. They'd be especially gaudy with advertising. But who knows, these covers might work really well too.

A few years ago they let you use the party deck and sit in the outfield for some weekend games. I really enjoyed the view from out there.
I'm not sure how covering the seats will work. It's kind of weird at the Mav games when they have the black tarps down. I can't say it's helped the atmosphere at all.

More proof that this stadium might be losing steam?
Bluejay infield to get a face lift
Bluejay infield to get a face lift
The school is replacing the infield portion of the artificial surface at the CU Sports Complex. Work began last month on the $250,000 project, which also includes improving the dirt cutouts and rebuilding the pitching mound. The project is expected to be completed around Sept. 1, in time for the start of fall practice.
Finally, the said they were going to do this last year but never got around to it I guess, hopefully this will eliminate some of those crazy bounces in the infield. Now, if they could just put some LIGHTS!!!!!!!!!! up, I'd be set, Friday night games at the CU Sports Complex would be freaking awsome! I actually think they could get some good sized crowds at those. But anyway, good news to me, maybe not to people who want creighton to help the royals with their stadium. The new infield will take on a more traditional look as the portion of a natural turf field that is dirt will be dyed brown.

I wouldn't say that... I believe Creighton officials have been adamant for some time now that they wouldn't be financially involved in a downtown stadium project (aside from their own).More proof that this stadium might be losing steam?

The Creighton turf is a temporary fix. I posted plans a while ago on Creighton's expansion plans, which show a softball and baseball complex on the ease end of campus near the new soccer stadium. I'll try to find the link later.

That was in tom shatel a few months ago, he mentioned everything Creighton wants to do with the complex, all of which have been rumored forever, but its finally nice to see something developing with this. Hopefuly the lights will come next.Finn wrote:The Creighton turf is a temporary fix. If I had to wager money on it, I'd put the chances of a new Creighton stadium higher than a new Royals stadium. I have this feeling that Creighton is just waiting to see what the Royals can put together.OmahaJaysCU wrote:That was in tom shatel a few months ago, he mentioned everything Creighton wants to do with the complex, all of which have been rumored forever, but its finally nice to see something developing with this.
