Someone please correct the 'comming' on the thread title (actually I see it used enough... use the 'filter' option to correct them :D ).

Whew!

Well, I don't know about anyone else... but I'm sure glad this Urban Fritters thing didn't pan out.

What a huge win for downtown!

I still think Omaha should get one. Downtown, maybe in Upper Market, would obviosly be the best place for it. Maybe in a couple years as that area develops.
Three words..."Will not happen." Has UO ever located in an area with no retail around it? It usually goes to hipster areas or major upscale shopping areas which Omaha has neither.

|expletive| YEAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

Omaha deserves this. Downtown deserves this. I can't express how happy I am right now. With a retail commitment like this in the district, get ready for the flood gates to Open.

And the city of Omaha owes Robb Nansel and Saddle Creek a HUGE debt of gratitude, for being visionary and loyal and investing back into the urban development of Omaha. It seems that they were pretty much single handedly responsible for this "get," and BECAUSE of them, this area is going to be PHENOMENAL. I can't stress it enough.

Hmm...lets see... a several month property rights extension to Nustyle + rumor of LB (whatever it was) being pushed through this legislative session = ballpark announcement in second week of July? Let's hope so.

I think (hope) the city will stick to the recommendations of the NDT study and convert the big Qwest Center lots to garages with street level use. heck if they could put a few floors of residential or office space above the garage, they'll really maximize space.

I'm really excited about this! Let the flood gates open. With a major retailer such as UO locating in NDT, it is almost a gaurentee now that others will follow. The first one is the hardest, but after that, the rest will see, "oh, others are taking a risk, it must be good, I want in on that too." This also should put a ton of pressure on the Royals. The stadium is suppose to be across the street from this, if the Royals don't step up soon (the next few months), that land will be sold to other developers for a lot of money.

What a great day for NDT.

the quote of the article!
"I can tell you that they are not going in there alone," Whalin said. "There are other retailers looking or that are committed to that area."

I can't wait to go to an Omaha Royals game at Urban Outfitters Stadium.

The uniforms alone would be worth the admission...

It would be kind of weird having a baseball stadium across the street from an independent rock club, an indie film theater, and and Urban Outfitters...but you know...whatever.

And I agree Swift. H&M would be PHENOMENAL!!!! And after the UO announcement, I'd pretty much say anything is game.

It would be excellent if that happens. No doubt a better use of space, especially if they were to contain the office and residential space. Urban Outfitters was a great score for the area and a great way to kick things off down there. Things are starting to get very interesting.

Yeah, now that an Urban Outfitter is opening, I'd almost rather see this area turn into a shopping district. But I'm sure the bureaucratic ball is too far gone to change plans now.

Is/was there something I missed? What part of any of the previous plans would prevent this from happening if someone steppe up with the project?

I guess they aren't necessarily mutually exclusive.

Can you imagine what traffic would be like on an evening with a show at the Qwest, a game at the stadium, and a show at Slowdown?

Urban Outfitters persuaded Omaha would be perfect fit
BY CHRISTINE LAUE
WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER

"Omaha gets a lot of positive press in regard to the music scene in the city," Marlow said. "That's an important thing in the life of the customer we're doing business with."

"I've read in Rolling Stone that Omaha is the best rock scene in the country," said Scully, a self-described Saddle Creek fan. "It just seems like the right opportunity for us to open a store there."

Most interesting at the end of the article. Regarding the ballpark for the NDT anchor.

"Mayor Mike Fahey said the city has not been dragging its feet. Rather, it's been critical, trying to find a "fiscally sound proposal that is not on the back of taxpayers."

He said the city is close to making decisions on other major developments.

"I think you'll see a lot of things happen in 2007," he said.

In reference to Urban Outfitters.
"It is certainly the type of retailer we want there. It's really a home run."

Does someone have baseball on the mind?

"I'm not at liberty to say some of the things we're looking at," he said.

Urban Outfitters is shooting for a October 3rd opening.
From the Omaha World-Herald....

"Construction inside Omaha's first Urban Outfitters store is under way for a planned Oct. 3 opening, the complex's developer said."

"Urban Outfitters sits between the locally owned Blue Line Coffee, opening later this summer, and an unleased restaurant space in the Saddle Creek Records complex's north building."

It seems they're really moving on this project. I can't WAIT!

I've been checking their website a couple times a week looking for Omaha to be listed as "coming soon" on their locations page. So far, not yet.

I'm just wondering why on this page:

Nebraska is black with stripes and "NE", and other states that don't have an Urban Outfitters are white with nothing?

Nebraska's black w/ white stripe design is just the design they gave us. All the states that have UOs have some sort of design and the state's two-letter abbreviation. All the states that DON'T have a UO are white with thin black stripes, again, just the design they gave it.

I was excited to see that they added Nebraska, though there isn't yet a link with specific store information

I meant to point this out, as I've been watching it ever since the announcement waiting for them to add Nebraska to the map. They added it last week while I was in New Mexico.

In the window at Slowdown is a poster about an Urban Outfitters jobfair. I can not remember the dates.

I walked by after seeing a movie at Filmstreams tonight. It was about 10 P.M. and all the lights were on and there were a bunch of workers working away. The chandelier is up, and the big staircase leading to the second level was "functional."

Things are coming along quite well. I'm looking forward to seeing the final product in a few weeks!

A friend and I went to the Slowdown on Friday night. We got there around 10 and there was a bunch of work going on over at Urban Outfitters so we went over to take a look.

They've installed all this really cool, BEAUTIFUL painted woodwork on the walls and all the mannequins have been delivered.

The worker we spoke to, who was really nice, said they're still looking at an October 3 opening, which is a week from this Wednesday.

Having helped open up the Banana Republic at Village Pointe, I'd say they'll probably finish up with all the interior finish work on Saturday or Sunday, and then get shipment on Monday and spend Monday night, Tuesday, and potentially Tuesday night getting everything situated and finalized.

I'm really excited to check it out!

The sign is about three quarters painted as of tonight.

I think it's really cool. It's got large block letters with "shadow" depth. It's one large sign that reads "URBAN OUTFITTERS" and it goes from the left blue panel to the right blue panel with the "U" in "OUTFITTERS" being painted on the brick "column" in between. Cool.

I am laughing (at myself and/or my lack of being in step with what is currently hip and instyle) as I say this but my first impression of that sign is it is wicked FUGLY. Vomit. Spew!

Yeah I know. I don't get it. Oh well, if you all like it and it makes Omaha seem more cool then more power to their sign. I doubt that I am in the demographic of their target market anyway.
My old signature got too old. So old it was getting almost as old me as me. Yeah, it was up there in years.
