Of course not, beleive it or not he know who pays a major portion of the bills at 590.Brad wrote:He actually wasn't too mad about it.CapitalGuy wrote:I just can't wait to hear Matt P. on THE Mighty Big Sports 590 give his old buddies Dana and the Raz heck over this schedule. Maybe just ANOTHER reason Matt was agreeable? :mrgreen:Brad wrote:I think they are fair. They had very well thought out answers.
By the way, I think Dr John's pays most of the bills on 590.....
I for one am glad there is finally someone in this state not partial to everything Nebraska. It gets really old. Creighton deserves more attention, they've earned it. Nebraska basketball has done NOTHING, EVER.CapitalGuy wrote:I should have prefaced my post by indicating sarcasm was involved. Matt P. made a point of how weak Nebraska's non-conference schedule is this year, but of course says little about the Creighton's watered down schedule. Not that I care that Creighton scheduled the way they did - it is a reasonable schedule. It is more Matt's tired act of slamming Nebraska and then turning the other direction on Creighton. All while claiming to be impartial.
Defense and rebounding. Rebounding and defense.
That's the mantra Dana Altman is trying to drive home to his Creighton basketball team in the early days of preseason practice. If the Bluejays are to be successful, Altman told his players on the opening night of practice, they're going to have to be demons on the boards and on defense.
"I think if anyone wants to win, they need to focus on defense and rebounding," Creighton guard Josh Dotzler said. "If we want to win games, we're definitely going to have to do those things and do them well.
"We're not the biggest team, we're not the most experienced team, but we can be a good defensive team and we can rebound the ball."
Even in seasons when Creighton is blessed with a wealth of offensive talent or experience, Altman has always been big on his teams being able to "D" up and hit the boards. Many a player has found the coach's doghouse after letting up in either of those aspects.
This season, Creighton is neither blessed with experience nor returning offensive firepower. Nine of the 14 players on the roster did not play Division I basketball last season. Dane Watts, who has been more of a complementary player in his first three seasons in the program, is the top returning scorer. Watts averaged 9.9 points per game last season. No other returning player averaged more than 3.0 points per game.
The loss of All-Missouri Valley Conference selections Nate Funk and Anthony Tolliver leaves Creighton with two giant holes to fill.

Outside of Oregon and Creighton, Nebraska's non-conference schedule IS pathetically weak (and only has one non-conference game outside the state, which is even more ridiculous). Creighton has St. Joe's, DePaul, @Xavier, @Drexel, and @Bracket Buster. Five games much tougher than playing the Little Red, a team picked 10th in the Big XII, at home.CapitalGuy wrote:I should have prefaced my post by indicating sarcasm was involved. You know, claiming your second toughest non-conference opponent isn't that tough doesn't exactly bolster the argument at hand. (Namely, that the Little Red is playing a ridiculously weak schedule and that Creighton's non-conference slate is clearly superior).Stargazer wrote:You mean... outside of Oregon. Creighton isn't going to be nearly the same opponent as the 20th ranked team which NU beat last season.
I believe you're referring to someone else's argument. You know, claiming your second toughest non-conference opponent isn't that tough doesn't exactly bolster the argument at hand
If the choice is making the NCAA tournament but losing to Nebraska or beating the Little Red and missing the NCAA tournament, I'll take the former every day of the week and twice on Sunday.Stargazer wrote:Although how sad would it be to weather that tough schedule only to lose to 'little red' at home? :D
I would be a bit careful saying that. I hung my hat on beating Nebraska every year for a while too. But we have moved up in the world. Sure, an upset over big brother down in Lincoln was great, but lately, we seem to be over that big/little brother mentality. It is a rivalry, we both have more important conference games. For example, I would take a win at SIU over a win at Nebraska any day.OmahaBen wrote:If the choice is making the NCAA tournament but losing to Nebraska or beating the Little Red and missing the NCAA tournament, I'll take the former every day of the week and twice on Sunday.Stargazer wrote:Although how sad would it be to weather that tough schedule only to lose to 'little red' at home? :D
If Nebraska wants to hang their hats on the Creighton game every year, whatever. I'll take things for which you actually get to hang banners.

Saluki forward Randal Falker was named one of the top 50 preseason candidates for the 2007-08 John R. Wooden Award, the nation's most coveted college basketball award.
http://www.omaha.com/index.php?u_page=1 ... d=10172180When ESPN officials approached the Salukis about which team they would want to play if the network brought its college basketball "GameDay" production to campus, Lowery said Creighton was the hands-down pick. The two teams will play in Carbondale, Ill., on Jan. 26 in a game that will be broadcast by ESPN2.
"It was like, 'Who else?'" Lowery said. "It's just beneficial for our league to have these two teams play in that atmosphere, in that environment and with that media attention considering what we've done."
Getting ESPN to bring its "GameDay" crew of Reece Davis and Digger Phelps to one of its campuses is considered a major coup for the Valley as it attempts to play its way out of being considered a mid-major league. Lowery said Valley officials pushed hard for the matchup.
