Nice bounce back game for UNO. We desperately need to sweep Alaska this weekend. I know they normally have our number but this year they are winless in the CCHA.

They said attendance was something like 4000 ----- I doubt that number was was lots of open room in the lower bowl.

Finally, for season #12:
UNO Hockey picks up its first ever OMAHA recruit

http://www.omaha.com/index.php?u_page=1 ... d=10217132
Hockey: Player's pledge is milestone for Mavs

Nick Oddo can't wait for 2009 to arrive.

But last Friday, Oddo took one giant step toward making a decade-old dream come true.

Oddo, a first-year hockey forward with Cedar Rapids of the USHL, accepted a scholarship offer to join the University of Nebraska at Omaha for the 2009-10 season. The native Omahan is the first Nebraskan recruited by the Mavericks in their 11-year hockey history.

Oddo's arrival at UNO two seasons from now will mark a milestone of sorts. He'll have a chance to become the first Omaha youth-hockey product to skate on scholarship in a Mavericks sweater.

"I wanted to play at UNO since I was a kid, so this is very special for me," Oddo said. "I'm just really excited. I hope these next two years are going to go by pretty fast."

There currently are only two Omahans on UNO's letterman list. Tom Shaffer appeared in four games during the Mavs' inaugural season of 1997-98, and Jeremiah Johnson skated in 12 games from 2001 to '03.

Those two forwards both were walk-ons, and neither of them recorded a point at UNO.

First off, its a young team.

Second, over the past 11 years other teams have changed and UNO keeps playing the same old slow kemp style.

Third, what about starting 2 and 3 goaltenders? Is it if you have 2 starters you really have none?

I want to see them get things turned around before they drive the rest of the fans away. People around here are spoiled and don't hang with losers very long.

Yep. A win against Miami would be so big. Let's do it on Friday night to get the attention before the Saturday night game... and then do it again!

Hockey: Two Mav games to be televised

http://www.omaha.com/index.php?u_page=3 ... d=10217455
Two University of Nebraska at Omaha hockey games have been pegged for live television coverage, including the Friday, Jan. 11, game against Miami of Ohio.

That 7 p.m. Central Collegiate Hockey Association contest at Qwest Center Omaha will be shown on Nebraska Educational Television's cable network, NET2, and in high definition on NET-HD. In the Omaha area on Cox Communications, NET2 is Channel 16.

The contest also will be webcast free on NET's Web site (netNebraska.org).

UNO's CCHA game Sunday, Jan. 6, at Western Michigan in Kalamazoo will be televised nationally on cable network ESPNU. That game is scheduled to start at 3:05 p.m.

Both games will be broadcast on KKAR, 1290 AM.

What would you say about a coach that has:

- Been at a program for several years
- Outstanding facilities compared to his rivals
- More-than-adequate fan support
- The largest booster club in his sport
- A warmer climate than his rivals
- A larger city than most of his rivals
- A recruiting advantage in his own backyard

Yet his team consistently ranks in the middle of the pack or worse in his conference each and every year.

#2 Miami of Ohio Sweeps UNO this weekend 6-3 and 4-1

Good news for UNO, the crowd 7,306 and 8,932, too bad that crowd didn't see something worth watching. Miami was gust too big, too fast, too phisical.

SWEEP!!! UNO 4, Alaska 3 OT

Let me Paraphrase what Terry Lehey and Greg Harrington said as the called the game on 1290 KKAR at 12:30am Omaha Time, 9:30pm Alaska Time.

Alaska Drives it in over the line. Centering Pass and A shot.... Oh what an amazing save by UNO Goalie Jarrod Kauffman. Mick Lawrence takes the puck and drives in the Alaska territory Pass to Juha Uotila and shoots, Goal!!! The assistant ref is point to the goal signaling goal! Meanwhile terrible head referee Wilkins is heading over for a replay, Wilkins steps back on the ice pointing at the center ice singling goal and end of game so at .29 seconds in to OT Juha Uotila scores his first goal of the season assisted by Mick Lawrence giving UNO the win 4 - 3.

I think I will have time to post 1 quick pic, but I have a bunch tomorrow!

It was great, they were raising the garbage bags that cover the upper bowl at the end of the first to fit more people in!

From a numbers perspective it was an outstanding crowd. From a noise perspective...I never want to hear complaints about Creighton's fan base again. I've never heard 10,000+ people be that quiet before. After moving down into some empty seats in the lower bowl, you could easily hear Ohio State's coach yelling over the din of the crowd.

I am not sure that this piece of anecdotal evidence really means anything, but that is neither here nor there. Great crowd compared to the usual number the Mavs see, but it could still be better. In defense of the Mavs though, their biggest problem recently been the recent apathy towards hockey in the US in recent years.

I haven't been to a Creighton game game in a couple of years, but at that time, 6,000 UNO fans were louder than 12,000 CU fans. And Saturday night's 10,500 UNO fans were much louder than that.

Probably. That section they had closed off at the UNO game is huge.

We were only 6082 Fans away from a Sellout! (16,680 for a hockey sellout)

IT CAN HAPPEEN!!!!

Awesome, I will be able to make it to all 3 Games!

UNO Hockey: Concert date changes possible home series

http://www.omaha.com/index.php?u_page=1 ... d=10256246
Assuming the UNO hockey team will be home for the first-round of the CCHA playoffs, the Mavericks will play their best-of-three series under a Thursday-Saturday-Sunday format at Qwest Center Omaha.

Because of the Keith Urban and Carrie Underwood concert scheduled for Friday, March 7, at Qwest Center Omaha, the University of Nebraska at Omaha received approval from the CCHA to play its potential best-of-three playoff series Thursday, March 6; Saturday, March 8; and Sunday, March 9, if necessary.
Under the current CCHA playoff format, teams typically don't get an idea until late in the season where and when they'll open the league tournament.

The clubs that finish first through fourth in the final conference standings receive a first-round bye. Teams that finish fifth through eighth in the league host first-round series, while the schools that come in ninth through 12th are sent on the road to open the playoffs.

Although nothing is certain, it appears likely that the Mavericks - in fifth place in the CCHA - will be one of the four teams hosting a first-round series.

Dork stuff I am interested in:
Because of the Nebraska state high school wrestling tournament, UNO will host Bowling Green this weekend at the Civic Auditorium. But Kemp said the Mavs' former arena wasn't available for the playoffs because the ice will be removed Feb. 21 through 24 for the Shrine Circus.

The ice also had to be torn up at Qwest Center Omaha to accommodate the state wrestling tournament - but the rink will be frozen again for UNO's Feb. 29 exhibition against the U.S. National Development Team.

I can guarantee that Sunday nights SIU crowd was 10x louder than any of unos crowds. heck 4000 Knight fans use to make more noise than 8000 UNO fans.

Twiztid1 wrote:I'm a UNO fan, although the entitlement attitude of SOME of their fans makes it hard to be. I hate to say it, but most UNO games are dead quiet. I love the Red Army; they have some great chants. Why do none of them every spread around the rest of the arena? The rest of the the crowd chants "UNO" after goals and then sits back down with their drinks...something UNO fans ridicule Creighton for. It was the same way when UNO was at the Civic. But this weekend's crowd will be a lot of fun.
I always thought there should be 2 red armies. One on each end. Then they chant back and foruth and have all the fans in the middle. The would be fun.

Its not a UNO problem, its Not a Creighton problem, its an Eastern Nebraska Problem... Eastern NE because I am including the "sit down" blue hairs in Lincoln.
