Mike Hastings, associate hockey coach at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, brought players and cheerleaders with him as he spoke to a crowd of appreciative Roatarians.
Hastings, who was the head coach of the Omaha Lancers for 14 years before returning to the city this year to join coach Dean Blais’s staff, spoke about his love for Omaha.
“I’ve been asked, ‘Why come back to Omaha?’” said Hastings, who spent a year at the University of Minnesota.
“It’s probably the same reason everybody’s here. It’s a special place. The Midwest is something that’s unique -- and that’s not to beat on the people that are on the East Coast, West Coast, anything like that -- but I’ve been on both, I’ve recruited both. I love this place, I love Omaha. Both my children were born here.”

“We’re incredibly proud to be representing the University of Nebraska at Omaha,” Hastings said. “We’re very proud to be representing the city of Omaha.”
